The title says it all really. When clicking Next or Previous (or using these from keyboard shortcuts) tracks begin playing even if they were stopped before. To me this is counter-intuitive.

How can I change this behaviour so tracks don't start playback until I tell them to?

I also wouldn't mind knowing this.

FYI, I am creating a setup optimised for DJing, where this is critical. I do hope to share this when done.

You can take foo_menu_addons: it puts in main menu (playback -> jump) commands like "next title" or "previous title". Additionally to that you can create pretty buttons for quick access.

By the way: i am interested to see your setup. smile.gif

Thanks for the tip -- I checked this out. Unfortunately the new menu items seem to do everything except what I need! The closest I can find is "Playback -> Jump -> Forward - > by ten items", which actually skips to the next item in the playlist?!

Under the condition that "Playback Follows Cursor" is on, the required steps are: stop playback, do the ten items thing. This is two keystrokes. Is there a way to get this down to one action?

BTW, this does not work using pause/play, which can be assigned to a single toggle key, only if stop is used.

A very unfortunate side-effect of this component is that the context menu is stuffed with five new items, which *cannot* be removed from Preferences. I've just spent some time cleaning up this menu so I do not relish having all sorts of cruft put back in.

A third downside is that a rather large library install is required to use the component.

Conclusion: still looking!

I've just written my second foobar article, showing off this customisation, over on theatre of noise. Within the next couple of days I'll post the code. I've got a few bugs to iron out.

OK, I have posted my setup over on my hacker blog, diagrammes moderne.
