What IS IT with the "just my 0.2 cents, 2 cents, 0.253 cents, 0.07 cents, 0.4 cents"??
WHY oh why must people write this?? I mean, is it all about money in the end? Like, who cares about your cents? Shouldn't they care about you/what you think and not the lousy 0.2 cents you spend while replying to a topic?
OK so maybe it's like saying "just a little time of my life dedicated to contribute my thoughts on the matter, hope you appericiate it".
But come on, i see these "just my 2 cents" comments all the time, that troubles me. Oh an "arrrrgh!".
So that's why i wrote this off-topic topic. Yeah, it's probably not a very good one, but you know, just sharing my thoughts on the matter, hope you appericiate it.
(you know the cartoon show "Sheep in the Big City"? I feel like the ranting swede, heh smile.gif)

This appears to be an American idiomatic derivative of the earlier "I wouldn't give two cents for (that)." As useage increased, some folks began giving their two cents... and in recent years, in an attempt to be clever/be different/attract attention to their own comments, others began modifying the denominations.

Why? Dollar is very near the value of Euro, and we have cents in Euro-currency also.. rolleyes.gif

I never noticed it that much before - up until I read this post. Now I see your point, as I now notice it all over the place.

Or be a real geek and say: "My one-fiftieth of a standard monetary unit."

so it is a sort of negative logic? (for example i got some file with the dontreadthis.txt text file inside and yes actualy read it, i guess it is working)

i dont wanna give my 2 sit, make me. tongue.gif

?

It's just a saying that originated as an alternative to "I'll add my opinion to this conversation" as explained here, having originated from the card game poker.

I don't find it any more or less annoying than all the other colloquialisms in the language.

Yea...what about people like me with no cents what so ever?
What are we supposed to say?

Thanks everybody for the replies.
h, that's a really nice site. So THAT's where it came from!...who'd have known?..(not me smile.gif)
I'll check some more phrases later smile.gif.

By the way, since this is a really "-off topic-" topic, i'll say good luck with your current conversion tool project for Neuston! From what i've read it seems it's giving you some headaches smile.gif, anyway good luck, that's a great thing!
