Hey all -

I've owned a set of Monsoon MM-700s for a number of years now (probably about six by my reckoning). I have yet to hear a set of multimedia speakers that compare, but age and SPL have taken their toll.

My poor little panels have begun to buzz even at only moderately loud levels. I assume the mylar is just getting floppy. As most of us know, Monsoon Multimedia went under a while ago so new OEM parts seems unlikely. I suppose I could find a used set but they'd likely have the same problem. Is there anyway of getting my hands on some generic replacement 4"x 8" planar-magnetic panels?

I know it's a long shot but I may as well ask, right? smile.gif

Do multimedia speakers play video too? smile.gif

Hey, I don't dream up the naming conventions - that's the marketing department's job. :fawk:

I'm not sure how the Monsoon panels are constructed. But if your reason for the malfunction is valid, can blow hot air(such as a hair dryer) directly on them(sparingly), as this will constrict mylar. This is a standard 'maintenance' for DIY ESL panels when the material stretches over time.

Interesting. I don't think I'm at that point just yet - if there's a chance that I could melt my poor mylar it'll have to be a "nothing to lose" situation where the speakers are basically unlistenable anyway. I will bear it in mind though. Thanks!

You will not damage the Mylar unless you are careless, assuming of course, it is constructed as you have speculated. You disassemble the panel to get access to the Mylar film and then you apply the heated air at a distance and move it close slowly until you see the stretched/wrinkled areas of the Mylar contract a little. You stop as soon as you have shrunk the material to the desired limit.

Yes, these are a great little speaker. Might be a idea to talk to Eminent Technolgy for suggestions. Sonigistix who manufactured the Monsoons licensed the technology from Eminent Technology.
