Hi,

on my laptop when i use Directsound 2 it sounds very bad, like 22khz sample rate or worse, but fine when i switch to waveout. Any idea if this is related to the (not so good) laptop audio, or just software related? If so, any idea where i can maybe change the quality setting so i can use directsound in foobar with nicer quality? Hardware acceleration is already enabled, and quality settings are on max. Using win2k on a Dell Latitude C600.

Thanks
norz
Same problem here: with foobar 0.8.3, directsound or directsound 2 outputs have a lot of background noise, whereas with waveout the sound is clear.
(This is on a Sony Vaio C1VE with a Yamaha DS-XG)

I guess your test has been done with 0.8.3 too, as with 0.9.x there is -afaik- no waveout available, only the default output, plus kernel and asio outputs. Am I right?

Edit: after having read another thread, I tried kernel streaming with foobar 0.9.4.2, and the sound is much better. However, the component is experimental and apparently you have to set the correct bit depth and sampling rate for your sound card. I have bit depth set to 16, and with a 44.1hz track, it played fine: still a bit background noise, but very acceptable (about five times more quiet than previously with directsound).
