I have browsed looking for info on this issue but I haven't find the solution yet. I hope you can help me.

This is the first time I'm trying to play an .ape file and I have within the same folder:
- A CDImage.ape file (around 80 Mb)
- A CDImage.cue file (2 Kb)
- A CDImage.ape.cue file (2 Kb)

When I double click either the .cue file or the .ape.cue file, Foobar2000 opens --> It says "please wait" --> And then nothing shows up. The screen stays just as it was: empty.

I have tried editing both files (with Notepad) and changing the .wav end to .ape end and vice versa. I have tried different combinations but I haven't managed to get anything at Foobar2000.

I have also tried dropping the .ape file (the big one) to Foobar2000. In this case I see the title of the CD: "1.Phenomenon" however, when I ask it to play the file it says:

Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported file format):
"C:\Documents and Settings\Files\Thomas Newman - Phenomenon - Promo - (DeadEnemy23Juggler)\Phenomenon.ape"

All the FAQs and Guides I have seen assume that if you drag and drop the CDImage.ape.cue file to Foobar2000 it will automatically list the tracks and you will be able to play them. However, this doesn't seem to be the case.

Any ideas? Thank you for your time.

This is how the .ape.cue looks like in notepad:

PERFORMER "Thomas Newman"
TITLE "Phenomenon"
FILE "Phenomenon.ape" WAVE
TRACK 01 AUDIO
TITLE "Track01"
PERFORMER "Thomas Newman"
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
TITLE "Track02"
PERFORMER "Thomas Newman"
INDEX 01 03:44:70

(And so forth until track 14)

This is how the .cue looks like in notepad:

PERFORMER "Thomas Newman"
TITLE "Phenomenon"
FILE "Phenomenon.ape" WAVE
TRACK 01 AUDIO
TITLE "Track01"
PERFORMER "Thomas Newman"
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
TITLE "Track02"
PERFORMER "Thomas Newman"
INDEX 01 03:44:70

(And so forth until track 14)

(As I said, I have tried changing the .wav to .ape and the .ape to .wav)
Thanks again.

you need the APE plugin. judging by the error that foobar2000 displayed, it doesn't seem that you have it.

you can get it here.

... and amend the cuesheet from:

FILE "Phenomenon.ape" WAVE

... to:

FILE "CDImage.ape" WAVE

When I double click either the .cue file or the .ape.cue file, Foobar2000 opens --> It says "please wait" --> And then nothing shows up. The screen stays just as it was: empty.

probably you were then using columnsUI and did not have a playlist selected or existing at all - afaik ui doesn't create a playlist when tracks are loaded and unless you don't have a (empty) playlist tracks are read but 'will be discarded'.

Thanks a lot for your help.

The playlist was working and I checked the file name was the same to the ".ape WAVE"

What solved the problem was installing the APE plugin.
I went to http://www.foobar2000.org/components/index.html and downloaded and Installed the "Monkey's Audio decoding support" version 2.1.1

Now when I drag and drop the .ape.cue file to Fb2k it loads the tracks and plays them.

I thought that fb2k already included the plugin for playing ape files. It seems that if we can't play ape files with fb2k, first thing we must try is installing the plugin from fb2k website.

Thank you very much again. Problem solved.
