I like prawn's 4, and 5 if you remove the crossbar of the A. It should be associated with a subtext as it is rather abstract.

I can't get used to M's "target".

Some suggestions use a waveform, which often is not much aesthetically pleasing (try to smooth out a few spikes?).

Why a bear mascot? "Tom" is usually associated to cats (tomcat), so I would use that.

Irrelevant I guess, but I was just watching the trailer for Pan's Labyrinth and this scene caught my eye.



I think I just got the heebie-jeebies.

Pretty cool (and I've never even heard of Pan's Labyrinth, much less seen it!), but remember that there are only so many ways you can draw a circular maze! At least, if you want it to show up in a video frame....

I like the circle with the small trailing flame, and I like the first of your text logos. I don't think anyone has combined the two yet?

The trouble with text logos is that there isn't a single icon that can be associated with the name. You can't have just an image that represents the product. Take for example, a program icon, I don't like seeing text logos in there. It just feels better to have an image. A hybrid of the two, like the TaK text inside the circle might be quite nice.

Also, the font might use a change. It feels too much like the Star Trek font. Personally I rather like Isolent's font choice from the first page.

A black and white version, and a retro look logo

It really is, the "speaker" gloss is quite nice.

I have to admit I first read "That is a neat hyphen" and for about half a minute thought "Where the f*** is that hyphen?"

As I said previously, I think it will need to be converted to upper case to stand a chance, but maybe Tom's changed his mind. I doubt it though, as I know he specifically decided upon upper case after deliberating a while.

Sorry, I must have over looked that post, so here is the logo with upper case letters. To be honest I prefer the lower case it appears more balanced (if that make sense).

My intention for the icon was the cone portion of a speaker. Here are a couple other iterations of the logo with upper case letters

I came up with another idea...

It kind of goes against my original intentions (inspired by rjamorim). While it look OK in monochrome it might not be simple enough to look to be readable when it is small (say, etched on to a stereo or something... or maybe even as an icon)

I just did a quick mock up of it in monochrome just to make sure...

I'll probably follow this up with a set of icons if I have the time.

I wasn't sure about your new logo at first, but the icons are certainly appealing! This one is fast growing on me.

Dual interpretation: It could be a speaker-cone, or it could be a funnel. Big ol' WAV files go in one end, and teensy little TAK files come out th' other side....

Hm, it will take some time for me to get used to the larger versions. Although i don't know how it could be done, i would prefer to add some text like "Lossless Audio". People who first see this logo should immediately know what it is about.

How about:

Have you considered using two lines? "Lossless" on top, "Audio" on the bottom, and with the left side of both the "L" and "A" following the contour of the cone... that way you're carrying your curved text theme through, without sacrificing legibility.

These icons are nice but it'd be much better if we had one that has the same design as the other codec icons in foobar. Tbeck needs to pick a color for his codec first.

I played with this a while ago now. I didn't like the way it looked and I could get it to a point where I liked it... Though thank you for your suggestions!
EDIT: Just dug up what I did. The A is a bit mucked up as you can see. If I remember correctly, I didn't stick it in the middle because the letters bowed too much or they didn't follow the contour of the speaker.
