Yes, it's desperately missing!
Unfortunately i have absolutely no talent in graphics... But possibly i could provide some ideas.
I would like to collect some ideas for the TAK logo. Unfortunately I'm not really a talented. So all you graphic talents in the forum please contribute.
Maybe in the result we get a nice idea for TBeck? :-)

I'm not that experienced at creating stuff from scratch, but I might have a go at it...
My current avatar is one of the very few things I have created on my own
Never heard of TAK before, but I found out that it is a lossless audio format.
So is TAK the full name of the format?
Or could it be called TAK lossless, TAK audio, TAK codec ...

I've always thought simple text-based logos were the best. That and they're easy to make.

Here are some more infos about TAK.
TAK (
Tom's lossless
Audio
Kompressor) is the full name.
@Insolent
The second logo look fine. Just the color skeme "green". Anyhow I conect green with the LAME encoder. But thats very subjective.
Maybe another color?
Thanks for contributing!

I love the second one, except for the color (reminds me of LAME like gottkaiser said) and the fact that there seems to be a gap between "a" and "k" while there is none between "t" and "a".

Nice one
The green is a bit LAME
Add the dark outline to the top version and only on the "tak"

Maybe in blue? Or brown...ish?
one vote for the bottom blue one
Bottom blue one is a very nice. Looks great! Nice job
I really like the logo scheme proposed by Insolent, especially the blue one.
I would recommend taking the current icon assignments of foobar2000 into consideration — it would certainly be a convenience and add to the recognizability of the format if the color scheme could match an eventual foobar2000 icon. For example, I commonly associate FLAC with yellow and WavPack with red, even if the logos are... black-ish with red, yellow, and green, and blue and black, respectively.
foobar2000 icons for lossless codecs have the face as black, eyes as white, and the background varies; the color close to the blue is still available, and would look something like this (too lazy to change the text

):

I don't think we should take any other program icon assignments into consideration.
I would say let's just invent a nice Logo that suits TAK. (my opinion)
I like the lower blue on from Insolent.

Rephrase mine to "If the logo would be the bottom blue one, we could perhaps have the foobar icon as above"

I did not mean to suggest that the logo should be
designed to fit in with icons for another application.

I liked the simplicity of this one, with the over lapping letters. It has my vote.
Excuse the crudity of this version, I have paint and that is it. Inverting the logo looked a lot better to me, and I think that "T" should have a different color, red might not be the best choice.

The bottom ones from Insolent are great. Simple and appealing. (Sometimes when you see a bad logo it makes you want to not use whatever software it is for...)

I associate FLAC with red/orange, WavPack with dark red or black, Monkeys Audio with brown, Shorten with blue and lame I very loosely associate with green.

The first thing to consider when creating a logo should be "will it look good on monochrome"?
At least, that's what I always had in mind when designing the WavPack logo and when helping the LAME devs choose their logo.

Pssst! No need to tell, that TAK is based on some very old fashioned technology....
TBeck; Change the name (maybe 'The audio kompresor'), but thats only my humble opinion.
I think there should be a graphics too. Almost every format or codec has a graphical logo.

No, don't change it from "Tom's ..."!
And yes, a non-letter graphical symbol would be nice, like the cut "diamond" of the TDK for isntance...

or rather a symbol that refers to a key technical aspect of TAK.

The TDK and TAK thing came to my mind as well. Since I'm a total TDK freak I happened to like the logo. And I still have some TDK tapes from the late 70s that still are going strong.

I'll give it a shot during lunch break and make some different versions, f.e. one version only with the initial "comet-like" flame. The addition of text could prove difficult as it's quite long for such a round logo, but I'll try.

I agree with the idea of having a graphical image to associate with your logo. It's hard to decide on something that important though. I am still trying to decide on mine.

Feb 21 2007, 06:52
So... like I promised, I made some new versions of the comet flame TAK logo: The first version, a single flame version with circular text and a single flame version with normal text.
The text integration really is difficult. The circular text is just some sort of proof-of-concept. It works, of course, but it's not very beautiful. Adding horizontal text is easier and looks better.
My favourite is the bottom version in blue - I think it's the most elegant one. Plus it looks good in monochrome.

//edit: Oops, colour conversion screwed it all up - CMYK can be a real b****. Here's the correct picture:

And this is the incorrect picture with matter colours:
