Hello,

Which tagging option would you suggest best for my MP3 files? IPB Image

I am just using an iPod, sometimes iTunes but only to transfer files from my PC to an external hard drive where I keep my music library, while I use foobar to handle the rest.

I also have some lossy files, APE WV and FLAC.

I was thinking to start using APE + ID3v1, baring that all MP3 are currently in ID3v1 and ID3v2 so I will have to convert them.

I am asking this as from what I understand with the change I should eliminate the "squares" problem on iTunes; but I am wondering what tagging system will prevail in the future. Do not want to change (more or less 5000 files) and then change again.

Any suggestion? IPB Image

Thanks in advance!

Hi, for MP3 files you should use the "ID3v1+ID3v2" tagging scheme. Additionally, to resolve the squares problem you may try the ID3v2 compatibility option offered in the latest versions of fb2k:
Preferences -> Advanced -> Tagging -> MP3 -> ID3v2 Writer Compatibility mode.

Turn the option on and try rewriting tags on few selected mp3 files first.

Thank you for your reply Egor.
I will then keep files on ID3v1 and ID3v2.

I switched on the ID3v2 Writer Compatibility mode option and rewrote tags. No more squares appearing on iTunes!

Thanks again!

Hopefully you are still around the Forum Egor. smile.gif
It's been some time you helped me out by rendering the ID3v2 writing of foobar compatibile with other applications, namely iTunes.
I have however realised a little issue, I do not know if anyone experienced it too:

With the ID3v2 Writer Compatibility mode activated it is not possible to rate (Ratings) your file, foobar does not register the entry.

is this a bug?

I insist on using iTunes, not that I especially like it. I am actually always on foobar but when charging my ipod I prefer to use iTunes, because when transferring an album via foopod this same album appears on the ipod list as many times I listen to it....that is, as soon as inputed it shows one album then, if I listen to it, it shows two times on the list. Anyway that's another issue which i'll raise on the right topic.

take care
