Now we need to configure EAC drive options.

Here are my screenshots:

I have clicked on "Detect Read Features" (with CD inserted) and after examining drive for a while, I've got this:
IPB Image
I've clicked on apply to apply detected settings and then submitted results to EAC drives database for future versions.

Then, as suggested, I inserted scratched CD, to verify that drive really supports C2 error detection.
I clicked on "Examine C2 Feature" and it really detected errors.
So, this tab is finished.

On the next tab, I autodetected read command. The result is here.

Next tab:

Manual of my drive says that it supports CD-Text feature, but it doesn't say if it supports read or write.
I assume if it's not specified, that it must be read, at least.

After I did suggested test from this manual, the result is here:

As I plan to rip music to hard drive and encode it into FLAC and MP3, writing features of my drive are not important, so I left default settings

I don't mean to be rude, but what is the objective of these threads?

IMO a better place would be the wiki. It is more suited to this kind od guides.

Yes, they would be and there is already enough EAC Guides as is biggrin.gif

I love these threads.

My feelings probably are such because I am in a similar situation/skill level/objective as the OP,Nik.As a beginner trying to get everything together to rip my personal collection so I can enjoy my music now and far into the future,I find the process and the amount of knowledge necessary along with the unending options of going about the task (EAC,DbPoweramp,REACT,foobar, etc.) to be a bit intimidating. Yes,there are many guides to configure EAC,but I believe Nik is going to carry out the entire process of ripping to FLAC and MP3,tagging,album art,ReplayGain and so on.

I suppose that if all of that were"old hat" to me,I might wonder what the point of this thread were, but in my position, I have noticed that there is no concise guide on how to go about this start to finish, which I think Nik may have noticed also and is attempting to do here.

I am somewhat surprised that there is nowhere here at HA that has a step by step guide and process to do all of these things. I have found that HA is probably the best source out there, but it is still like putting together a puzzle and not knowing what the pieces are. (HINT:maybe another Forum category)

I also think a thread for this is superior than the Wiki.It actually has a much more personal and conversational quality to it. Sometimes the guides and the Wiki can make a beginner like myself wonder if the info presented is up to date and current or not. This obviously is,and if not,I'm sure someone will let him know.I don't think Nik is writing for the Wiki,he is probably seeking input for any of his process, maybe someone can correct a mistake or point out a better/faster or smarter way of doing something. I know he is not "telling" someone how to do this,he is "asking".

Carry on Nik! -thanks

There are step by step guides, especially wiki related ones, so that that threads like this don't need to be reposted a thousand times. I am sorry to nitpick, but there are 100 EAC guides out there. If this was a ripping strategy for the average user they wouldn't be using EAC they would probably be comfortable with CDex, which a lot of people would regard to be much faster. A good 75% of the threads on CD Hardware/Software forum are in fact EAC related. It's just rehasing the same stuff over and over again. The EAC CD Drive Configuration Guide in the wiki is exactly similiar to this one.

You shouldn't have to apologize for nitpicking. This issue has been talked about to death in the past. Copious amounts of searching should help you find what you are looking for. Heck, I did the same thing as he's doing, and I fared well in the end.

There are reasons why there is no concise guide: people have different hardware and have different requirements from their ripping software. Let's begin by mentioning that not all drives have a read offset correction of +48 samples and that checking that a drive is capable of retrieving C2 error information can give undesired results even when the "Examine C2 Feature" routine is able to detect errors. Also, if I were to use the settings shown in the writer tab for one of my drives, I'd be making coasters.

There is and it is a sticky.

That's funny there isn't a single question mark in his post.

I'm with Kirby and HotshotGG. This has all been done already and it is all up-to-date.

I agree that starting yet another EAC usage thread is useless. Sorry if this sounds harsh, I appreciate the effort but there is already more than enough info available out there.

Hi all,
Baroid explained exactly the motivation why I'm doing it, and I agree with the rest that the things might got a bit out of control.
I just wanted to have a single topic where I'll explain what I'm trying to achieve and how I did it.
I planned to document it for myself and as some other people expressed an interest into it, I decided to share it.
But, due to some technical limitations (number of screenshots allowed) etc. someone suggested to break it into several posts and it's becoming obvious to me as well that it's becoming a mess.

On the other hand, maybe it's not obvious to experts, the documentation and manuals suggested are already outdated (old screenshots, no new features explained etc.), and not complete.
To achieve what I plan to do, and I'm glad I'm not alone, I need to read at least 10 manuals/readme.txts/howtos etc. and istall 4-5 pieces of software.
It's very time consuming and confusing process, which I wanted other beginners to save of.

Anyhow, as this is leading nowhere, and I'm nowhere near finished, I decided that I'll write a Word document and attach it, if possible to the original post.
It's also easier to create it in Word then in forum.
Therefore, I'll stop posting here and I'll ask someone (moderator?) to delete this post and the "part II".
I already copied everything I need.
