Full Version: Music library was in Real Player until I got an iPod shuffle

[b]My PC runs with WIN XP and I have approx 3000 audio files (some MP3s, some copied directly from commercial CDs and a few other formats) that I currently manage in my Real Player library. I had no problem with this until I got an iPod shuffle. Following iPod instructions I tried to copy all my files into iTunes library (which I had already installed on my PC). I ended up with an iTunes library with many duplicated files (some which were converted to AAC files as many as 6 copies of the same file). Other files (I think most of them were from commercial CDs copied to my PC) would not go to the iTunes library at all. I ended up deleting all the copied files and emptying my iTunes library and tried to start again. Now the only files I can get into iTunes are my MP3s.

I want to load many of my files onto my iPod but am currently only able to get the MP3s that are in the iTunes library onto it.

Apparently I can setup Real Player so it will recognise the iPod but would it have the capacity to convert the incompatible files so they would load onto the iPod?

In short am I better off persevering with Real Player or should I work out how to get everything onto iTunes and convert files & load my iPod from there.

Any suggestions?

I'm guessing you ripped to WMA or RealPlayer's format. Those files are not compatible with iPod's. I know that iTunes will attempt to convert unprotected WMA files to AAC's, but if there are any protected WMA files those won't convert.
