Are any of you CPU whiners actually doing benchmarks while Foobar is running, to see if it makes the slightest difference in your performance?

OK, I'm whining. But I've got a reason. Just because of kX icon in the tray my system is 50% loaded while playing foobar2k. And it makes a difference even while browsing this forum when you compare it with 15% without the kX Mixer resident.

Or, if it's a matter of principle that Foobar be as fast as possible, and you have the programming knowledge necessary, take your best shot at optimizing stuff yourself.

I'm not saying foobar's slow. Just curious why is this happening. Is it a multitasking problem? A matter of sharing sound device? I dunno! Thought someone would explain.

Have you tried eliminating any other running applications?

Okay, I agree; if it's slowing down your browser, it is a problem. My rant was directed more to those that were complaining about a whole 5% CPU usage, and even then it added no beneficial content to the discussion. I apologize for my outburst.

Oh, and he is right about kX Mixer. If kX Mixer and/or Quicktime are in my tray, FB2k uses 14-17% of my cycles. Probably interference with devices that are hogging DirectSound, or something...

Celeron II (Coppermine) 1GHz @ 1120MHz
512MB PC133 SDRAM @ 112MHz
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1
Yamaha DS-XG (YMF-724)

and just because I can,

VisionTek Xtasy 5632
MachSpeed MachTV (Conexant Bt878)
Realtek RTL8139a
Daybreak
Personal experience - Windows XP, Athlon 1600, 512 RAM..

Using both Crossfeed and Resample (quick to 48000) consistently takes 0 - 1% of my CPU time.. the only time I ever see a spike is when loading files (playlists, media, and resizing the window.. ) I don't really understand how you guys manage to register so high loads..
