hi team..........i have noticed that when i play a CD in my Pioneer CD Player then use a FLAC in Winamp (both connected to a Denon Amp) , the CD Player has a higher volume and bass punch......i dont turn the volume knob down at all i keep it at the same level as my CD Player.........even if i increase the volume on my Denon Amp......the FLAC in Winamp still cannot get that bass punch .............does anyone know what im talking about ? and can advise me on what may be happening and a possible fix !
PS....i use a 16bit SBLive! its about 6 years old
any help is sweet

Turn the volume sliders of the Windows XP mixer to 100% (both "Wave" and "Volume").
If that still won't deliver, try the kernel streaming plugin for Winamp and test again.

Not only the Windows mixers "Wave" and "Volume" but also "CD".
The SBlive is just not able to deliver good quality sound no matter what you do.
I had one connected digitally with 48khz resampling and kernel streaming output (which should be the best settings) and it still sounded like crap compared to my Terratec card.

1) Try playing the CD through Winamp and see if there's a difference
2) Make sure that you don't have an EQ settings enabled in Winamp.

It is the norm, not the exception, for different devices to have different output levels for the same data. You just have to use a volume control to adjust if you are unsatisfied. I can put the same CD successively into three different CD players and the output levels for all three are different. There isn't any real standard (only a general area) for inputs and outputs on consumer level equipment. I suspect that all professional equipment has similar variations. No one expects to do studio work without making adjustments. Monitoring is frequently set up with test tones and sound level metering so the user can know where to set the controls for some consistency with other studios or their own standards.
thanx for all replies dudes........i did some configuring and installing etc.......to not much avail........ive decided to buy a new CD Player the Pioneer is about 11 years old......im going to spend about $550 US......im going to delete all my FLAC and not use PC for music anymore.....
That's a dumb idea. Just buy a new soundcard. SB Live is a crummy card.
ok cool , what good sound cards are out there ?......
