What the title says.

I recently bought one for my new laptop, and I like the sound quality through my headphones. However, I'd also like to use it for DVDs while connected to my receiver, and I assumed when I bought it (perhaps incorrectly) that the SPDIF output would be capable of passing AC-3 or DTS signals. Every piece of software and decoder I've tried (WMP, DScaler, FFDShow, WinDVD, AC3Filter) either has the SPDIF output option greyed out, sends a PCM signal, or errors out.

Am I missing something, or can this device not pass AC-3/DTS over SPDIF?

If the soundcard has the capability, the manufacture usually displays it prominently in the device "features." It is a very common capability for S/PDIF/

The thread is old, but the issue is the same.
I bought a UA-1EX to get Dolby Digital and DTS through SPDIF from my laptop to my DD/DTS decoder. I tried a lot of players and options but can't get it to output the signal.
Is it really unable to do so?
