I have a Sony psp and I was toying with re-ripping my library to Nero AAC.
The Tags are fine with the nero files and itunes (haven't tested my iPod yet) but the aac's I play on my psp play perfectly fine
but they have no tags!?
Does anyone know what I have to do to get the psp to show the tags of my aac without useing SonicStage

to retag them. Is there a way they can be compatable with the iPod and the PSP at the same time or is this sony beeing annoying again?
Thanks,
I am having the same problem, I think the PSP just doesn't support any MP4 tags unfortunately.
Hopefully I'll be getting the PS3 next week and I'll see if that supports any tagging.
Sony is being annoying. For tags to work you need to use SonicStage or their PSP Media Manager to transfer/encode the files onto the PSP.
Using the PSP Media Manager is alot better than using SonicStage by the way!

Yeah, but its also $16.99 more than sonicstage!

I guess I should just be great full that sony actually added aac support, that was amazing in itself!
lol thanks for your help.

I am afraid that is one of the reasons why I sold my PSP. To me, it looked like Sony half-assed their AAC support while they were still pushing the ATRAC formats. You are right about being grateful that Sony added AAC support. They seem to be so stubborn with the audio formats that they support in that they don't open them up. For a while, I remember that Sony players only supported ATRAC. They slowly opened up to mp3 and WMA, now they have included a AAC encoder in SonicStage.
Well, I guess it isn't all Sony's fault in that they are using their own tagging scheme for AAC files. The AAC/mpeg-4 community should have come together and made a track ID standard as was done with mp3. Oh well.

Its never too late to make one!
But now, I guess, the Apple iTunes one should be the standard as most people use this.

I too would guess that they would have to follow Apple's tagging scheme. I think Nero even adopted it (or made their own tagging scheme that is compatible with Apple's). Most software apps/encoders like Nero, Winamp, Helix (in RealPlayer), etc. all support Apple (or iTunes/iPod) compatible tags. I guess Sony didn't want to follow Big Brother and they wanted to make their own standards. I guess they never learn.

I don't think its a case of "grateful" - I think that if you're paying lots of money for a device the makers have a responsibility to properly support the most well known formats above and beyond their own proprietary formats.
