I'm using fb2k v0.9.4.2.

I'm experiencing problems importing into the fb2k media library all the files I want. I have specified a list of about 5 key folders on my computer that contain all my media files, along with a (fairly) long list of filetype extensions in the "Restrict To" field (with "Exclude" field left blank) to bring in only the filetypes that I care about. For some reason, fb2k is flat-out ignoring some of the file extensions I have specified.

For example, I enter the following in the "Restrict To" field:
CODE
*.mp3;*.m4a;*.wmv;*.mpg;*.avi;*.mkv

and it doesn't import any avi files at all!

So I start over, clearing the "Restrict To" field and adding in ONLY *.avi. Then I click "Scan All" to re-scan the list of folders, and it imports all the *.avi files just fine. I then progressively add one additional file extension at a time, clicking "Scan All" and checking the media library after each. They seem to be getting imported successfully. Finally, I have something like this:
CODE
*.mp*;*.avi;*.wmv;*.m?v;*.m?a;*.wma;*.mkv;

and it ignores the *.mkv.

What in the world is going on here? Is there a limit to the number of file extensions I can specify in the "Restrict To" field, beyond which it will just ignore anything I put? Am I doing something wrong?

I'm confused blink.gif Why are you importing avi's? foobar is an audio player
also, this line:
CODE
*.mp*;*.avi;*.wmv;*.m?v;*.m?a;*.wma;*.mkv;

you have both *.m?v & *.mkv - this is redundant since *.m?v should include mkv's

I'm importing avi's because foobar is an excellent media manager and organizer and I'm using it to manage both my audio and video files (using foo_default_videoplayer to play the video files with mpc). Anyway, you're right, *.m?v should have brought in the mkv's. So why isn't it?

OK, I think I may have gotten some insight into what could be causing the problem. I opened up the Console, and noticed that everytime I click "Scan All" on all of the folders, or even "Scan" on just one folder, the Console prints out:
QUOTE
ML settings changed while scanning; scan results ignored.

Note that I'm doing absolutely nothing while it's scanning the folders. Any ideas which setting is being changed and why?

Your using Foobar2000 in ways not intended. How can you not expect things to go wrong. Get something else.

You're kidding right? Using the foobar media library to manage my media files is unintended behavior? Forget about whether or not foobar can natively play video files. That's not important. All I'm trying to do is import media files into the media library for organizational purposes.

Right so by your generalisation of media, I can say that a tape rack will help me sort out my CD collection.

What about metadata and all the formats to store tags.

Maybe I can sort my coursework with Foobar2000 also...

Maybe this too much? Do we know how fb2k works internally, how it parses unknown file types with unknown metadata? Peter or maybe foosion know the answer smile.gif
