Does anyone know of a free compilation of intruments for MidiHost? Or something that at least allows me to loads soundfonts in midihost?

VSTSynthFont can load some sf2 and is free.

How does VSTSynthFont compare with SFZ? I thought SFZ is the fastest engine, that is also free. However, I don't know how to integrate it with foobar2000

I admit I haven't really looked into it specifically, I just knew that I had one lying around that could do the trick.
VSTSynthFont loads its default settings from a file (which you can overwrite with your own settings). This allows you to open the VST in either a standalone program or something else that supports VSTi, and lets you load whichever soundfonts you want.
It isn't without its problems, though. It can't load all kinds, and sometimes it screws up on loading and gives you a horrible tone (like a split-split-second loop repeating).
sfz looks like it could be good if I could somehow tell it to load what I wanted when listening to it, I think it would work better. Oh well.
