My new car can play MP3s from a CD so I am now moving 300+ vinyl albums and 100 CDs to MP3. I save the tracks as "01 track name.mp3" in directories named for the album. With CDs its straight forward. The player does not handle play lists or randomizing so I fill a CD full of MP3 files from various albums and they sort of get randomized as they are sorted by the track number. I can live with that. 30 CDs and I'm ready for a cross country drive.
I use Nero and foobar2000 v.9.4.2 to copy vinyl to MP3 as follows:
- make 2 wave files (side-1, side-2) @ 96kHz 16bit
- clean-up the clicks
- ID and save the individual tracks as track01 etc. as MP3 @ 48kHz 16bit CBR
- run foobar, Tagging, Get Tags From freedb
- Update Files
- open Properties, Track Titles, Edit
- open Windows Explorer to the album directory
- copy and paste the Track Title text to rename the MP3 file "01 Track Name.Mp3”
So my question is - can I avoid the manual file renaming?
Also, if any one has ideas or suggestions on how to improve the above procedures they would be graciously accepted.
BTW - I compared the Nero MP3 encoder at 48kHz to the original vinyl LP and I can not tell the difference. RazorLime seems to loose some richness in tracks like Ntjilo Ntjilo from The Many Voices of Miriam Makeba. These losses become discernable in the fullness of her voice particularly in the duet with the muted trumpet. (I know “richness” and “fullness” are not terribly technical but how do you get past the “full body of the wine” concept.)
Much digression here.
