Full Version: Help me finalise my Ripping Strategy

Hi, new poster, long time lurker.

Right time to get everything FLACed once and for all, only around 500 cds. Been using EAC for many years to make CDRs and have only over the last year discovered its amazing potential for ripping to a library thanks to this place.

I was going to make FLAC images, but accuraterip has changed my mind. Am I correct that foobar will play seperate FLACs perfectly gaplessly?

For ripping, I have two drives

AOPEN CRW5232/AAO PRO +738 read offset and OVERREADS
LITEON CDRW SOHR-5238S +6 read offset NO OVERREAD

I have been following the BURST T&C vs SECURE debate and have devised a method. The LiteOn works a charm in BURST T&C (roughly 40x) and matching CRCs with Accuraterip verification is good enough for me. OK I miss 6 samples without overread but I can live with this.

The problem comes with discs not in the AR database (or scratched discs though my discs are 99% perfect, famous last words) Here I can double check with the AOPEN which gives great results in SECURE mode (though has trouble on the last track in burst mode, so thats why I favour the LiteOn for good discs, also I have two these and feel burst stresses the drive less). Trouble is those last 6 samples filled with zeros from the LITEON give me a CRC problem on some discs. I want to just hit TEST and verify the CRCs the LiteOn gave me.

The closest I can get seems to be to use the CRC from the accuraterip not present/not accurate (diff pressing) result to compare the last two files. I will paste these to the log as I can see no other way to get them in. Is there a way? I read andre may add the feature as the dll now has it.

Two other niggles, can I define a shortcut to create the CUESHEET (NONCOMPLIANT) and can I have the cuesheet and logfile include the artist in the name rather than just the album name?
eg Pearl Jam - Ten.log rather than Ten.log ( I understand REACT may do this or is this overkill if I dont need the multi-compression stuff?)

Nearly there. I have looked into using REACT to make FLAC and LAME files as in the 'ripping strategy for the average user' guide. Thing is, with Burst T&C I feel lame will slow me down, so can I achieve a similar result after the event (ie converting my FLAC directory structure into LAME in a few clicks, I know about converting an album or a playlist in foobar, but can it build the directory tree too?) I could then make my MP3s when I have finished. I've tried to search on this to no avail. Pointers?

Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the existing information without which I would never have arrived at this point!

REACT would let you create the cuesheet and log as you wish (or, more accurately, create it as normal and rename as you wish).

Bear in mind that EAC/REACT will build the directory tree using tags. You can easily do the same using foobar when converting from FLAC to LAME.

Thanks SS, great to know foobar will build the tree for me. I will have a play with converting some files before I do the rip. The converter with foobar had a slider and a dropdown where I could select LAME, but can I use my chosen lame.exe (3.97 full release) and specify the command line?

On REACT, I have grabbed v2.0 final from here http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=50259
I see you added some F keys (ie IMG and CUESHEET), can I add one for CUESHEET NONCOMPLIANT?

To properly mess with a LAME preset change the dropdown at the top of the dialogue to "Custom".

Woah, slow down there hoss, I didn't add anything - tycho did. I am not linked with REACT, except for being a happy user.

I believe you have to retrieve all cuesheets, but then you would edit your config to just deal with the one you want. The wiki may have more info. If not you may do best to move to the REACT 2 thread ans ask there.

oops, my mistake. Thanks again SS

right, making it generate the cuesheets is reason enough to try it. I need to make this process girlfriend proof.

Ah, OK. I was looking for that in the previous dialog drop down (in the first convertor window)
Thank you very much!

Ah, just noticed that the guide I read recommended FLACATTACK, now I need to compare this with REACT (and maybe MAREO and wack) which one do I need? REACT is the newest?
Synthetic Soul
REACT is the only one that can get the cuesheets for you I think. REACT and MAREO are the most up to date.
