I used Itunes+TuneSleeve to add album artwork to my collection of AAC-MP4s. But when I open the files with foobar2k+columnsUI or in WMP11+WMPTSE I don't see any album artwork

Does Itunes embed album art in a non-standard way?
Is there a way to fix the embedded artwork so that it shows up in other apps as well without having to re-add all the artwork again?

itunes can either embed the art in the file itself or put a copy in a separate itunes folder contining the art. fb2k doesn't read the embedded art. Certain plugins read art within fb2k, but only in separate folders (not embedded) and not from the itunes folders. Search this forum and you'll see lots on this. For example:

I ended up just extracting the artwork to folder.jpg's with this http://wmwiki.com/downloads/itsfv/ which is not exactly what I was after, but it'll get the job done.

I know that foobar2k can actually read embedded artwork since it reads artwork embedded by Album Art Fixer (http://www.avsoft.nl/artfixer/). It's annoying that whatever Itunes is doing is not the same as what Album Art Fixer is doing though!

I don't think there is a foobar2k component that reads any embeded album art.

You're right, my mistake.

I just found hidden album art files in the folder I was using the test Album Art Fixer - it wasn't embedding them after all.

Album Art Panel (foo_uie_albumart) shows embedded album art in FB2K.

I'm not sure if it can read iTunes embedded art though. Someone said iTunes can either embed album art or store it in the folder. Is there an option to set this one way or the other?

No option setting that I'm aware of. Older versions of ITUNES always imbedded the art in the file. Newest versions use the folder approach. However, you can simply paste the art file into the "album art" location in the file properties and then the art becomes imbedded in the file itself.

iTunes doesn't embed the artwork, it saves it to its own hidden database.

iTunes embeds the artwork in the tags when it's manually added, but for its automatic album art downloading (iTMS) it saves it in a database. IMO a bad design decision, even though it will have speed/size advantages.
