Please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong forum but I'm brand new here and after reading a lot of the posts, I'm a bit overwhelmed to say the least! I'm pretty stupid too so I'll try to explain my problems as best I can. If you have these software programs running under Mac OSX, then you can follow along! I'm burned-out trying to rectify the problems I am having trying to spit so-called "cue" files using the two programs [cue-splitter version 2.6 and XLD 20070214 (1.0)] running under the Mac OSX 10.4.9 on my (non-Intel) iMac G5. HELP PLEASE! I have no idea what I am doing wrong and even the creator(s) of the two programs won't help me with solving my cue-splitting problems. OK, here's the problems. . . .

Let's say that a friend gave I me a copy of the "Ram" CD by Paul & Linda McCartney. It contains two files. One is Ram.cue and the other is Ram.ape.cue. I have tried to use cue-splitter 2.6 to split this large Cue file into the component tracks but unsuccessfully. In cue-splitter, I can select the cue-splitter file from the "select cue-file" box and also tell cue-splitter where I want the split files to be placed on my HD in the "select destination" box. All of the component tracks from this huge Cue file show up in the appropriate box below where it reads "Index", "Performer" and "Title" (of tracks). So far so good. However, NO MATTER WHAT I DO, I cannot select anything for the "select audio-file" box! I cannot select anything nor write anything in there. CUE-SPLITTER WON'T ALLOW ME TO DO SO! Thus, if I try to split the big Cue file anyway by clicking on the "split" button, I get the following error: "Error: Audio-file not found. Please select one." Well, I would IF the program let me! I'm really at a loss as to what to do here. I've tried everything and despite several e-mails to the developer of the software gabriel@gritsch-soft.com, he has never answered any of them nor has he offered any tips as to how to get this program to work! Help.

As for XLD v. 1.0 OK, I go up to the "File Menu" and click on "Open Raw PCM (bin/cue [file]" and navigate my way to the Cue file (Paul & Linda McCartney's "Ram" CD) on my HD. Once I do this, all of the component tracks show up in the box with the headers "Track", "Title", "Artist", "Length" and "Pregap". So far so good. Oh, also, once the various tracks show up in the box, the small radio-button "Include pregap in the end of the previous track" is checked. Once I click on the "Decode" button, one of two things happens. The first thing that usually happens is that seemingly all of the tracks are split from the huge Cue file (done extremely fast) and are then seen in the same directory as the huge Cue file. The only thing is, these various tracks have a length of "zero"! In other words, there really isn't any track there i.e. these tracks can't be played in iTunes 7! Or the second thing that happens, depending on the hugh Cue file, is that the tracks are split correctly UP TO A POINT i.e. out of say 12 tracks, the first 8 will be split correctly and the last four will have lengths of "zero" i.e. they cannot be played in iTunes 7! Help! What's going on here?

I am totally baffled about all of this and I'm about ready to give it all up.

If you can help, I'd be eternally grateful. If you reply, please try to explain things on a very elementary level as I'm pretty stupid when it comes to this stuff! Lol. Thanks a million!

I don't think cue-splitter supports Monkey's Audio (APE) encoded files. I suggest you decode the file to a regular WAVE file, so you have Ram.cue and Ram.wav, then try again.

You might even have to open the Ram.cue file in a text editor and make sure it point to the Ram.wav file...

Use it to decode the Ram.ape file to WAV

Open Ram.cue in textEdit, and change all (if more than one) line from Ram.cue to Ram.wav. Then use cue splitter as normally

I tried following your instructions as best I could. No go. I'm pretty disgusted at the moment. Not with you! I've been trying to get cue-splitter or XLD to work on these long cue files for over a week now and I'm just burned out. I guess no one has EVER been able to split cue files under Mac OSX! I need to step away for a while until I regain my sanity. Thanks for trying.

Why not tell us how far you have come?
Have you been able to decode the Monkey's Audio file do WAV? So you have two files, Ram.cue and Ram.wav ...

If there are simply two files, then you shouldn't need to change many lines in the CUE sheet, if it was made properly. There should be a single line at the top to change that says FILE "Ram.ape" WAV.

Also, I am positive CUE Splitter supports splitting of APE files.

I am concerned with the two files you mentioned. You say that they are "Ram.cue" and "Ram.ape.cue" which makes no sense since NEITHER is an APE file. Are you sure that it isn't "Ram.ape" and "Ram.ape.cue" ? Whichever file is larger you should immediately change it to "Ram.ape" and ensure that is reflected in the CUE sheet.

I suggest you try emulating FooBar2000 to play the CUE and APE image. If it can play it, it can convert it for you into individual files.

I am not sure if any of this is helpful to you emulating these program in Mac.

OK, I downloaded Max and then used it to convert the big cue file ram.cue to ram.wav. I still cannot select anything for the "select audio-file" box! Where do I go from here?

...Which makes no sense but if you have a WAV and it is playable, then I am not going to argue.

Copy the actual CUE sheet and work with the copy from now on.

Open it in whatever text editor you have, the simpler the text editor, the better. Think notepad if you were in windows. This CUE sheet will be just a text-like document. There should be a single line towards the top:
Just make that FILE line look like this:and everything should work properly. You should try running it through CUE Splitter at that point.

EDIT: I have some questions at this point.

• Where are you getting the program CUE Splitter from?
• You are using an emulator to run CUE splitter?
• Why do you need to select an audio file at all? You should only have to select the CUE sheet since that has a FILE line which is directing the program to that file!

Something is wrong and I think it isn't your fault.

OK. I made a duplicate of the big Ram.cue file. Then I used Textedit to open it. Here's what it looks like (the lines ABOVE the track listings:

I don't know what an "emulator" is. I apologize. I got the cue-splitter program from the internet (free download). I need to select an audio file because the program (cue-splitter) asks for it and it won't split the big cue file without it!

The CUE sheet was pointing to a WAV that didn't exist. You have a WAV file now, so just edit between those quote and make it say whatever the WAV file is named now. You say it is Ram.wav, so it should read:

EDIT: I wanted to know where on the internet you were getting your CUE splitter program. I have a program called CUE Splitter and it is for Windows, and believed you were using the same program, only emulated on your machine. You own a Mac and can't run windows programs without an emulator.

Also save your edited CUE sheet. That CUE Splitter program of yours should not be asking for an audio file since the CUE tells one what file it is looking for.

And yes, it does ask for the audio file name! Sorry. Does anyone on this forum run the Mac OSX or is it all Windows? Perhaps I need to be in a different forum for Mac OSX users?

There are no separate forums based on operating system. You can ask questions to people with your specific OS which you did fine. I incorrectly assumed that the CUE splitter you were using was the exact same CUE splitter I use, only emulated, and that was why you couldn't select the files.

Can you select the file yet and all this be done with?

Came across this thread searching for details on how best to split ape/cue on OSX. After getting waylaid by the convoluted instructions using Xact I found that Bugman was on the right track using XLD!! It's the most simple and straight forward way to do this task on OSX.

Just incase anyone turns this thread up on a google search here is the method which also works with cue and all supported file formats (flac, wav etc):

a) set desired output file format and output directory in preferences (XLD > Preferences)
b) use "Open" in file menu to select .cue file
c) click decode

no fuss, no muss.
