I noticed that I have [EAC] .95 b3, and I see that b4 is the latest. I understand about the TOC issue so I want to keep b3 on my computer. Is there a way to install b4 that will automatically put in the settings I have for b3, while not disrupting b3, so I can just choose which one I want to use? Or, do I have to download b4 from scratch (if so, can I put it in the same folder as b3, or will it mess something up?). If there is a step-by-step guide please point me to it - I couldn't find it.

Also, what are the advanates of b4? Does it rip faster?

Thanks in advance and sorry if these are common questions - I tried searching first.

Since you posted in the mp3 forum, I assumed, initially, that you were talking about an old version of lame, but then it occurred to me that you are probably referring to EAC? If so, may be a Mod could move this to the appropriate place?

I assume you are talking about EAC. I believe you just need to install the new version in a different directory, either by changing the path during or re-naming the older EAC folder prior to installation.

I used the latter method (rename older folder) to run 2 versions of EAC on my system for a while because of the TOC issue. I also use it to run up to 4 copies fo EAC at once, each from a different directory.

Check the change log/ read me for the b3-> b4 changes

Yes I was referring to EAC. Sorry about that. What is the appropriate forum for discussing EAC?

I'll look around for the change log.

"The german magazin c't published an article whether EAC is or is not violating a german law against circumvention of copy protections on audio CDs. Some of the experts they asked had the opinion that the function of retrieving the native TOC is working at the limit of legality, at best. Due to that article and to eliminate any possibility of legal problems, I decided to remove that function (although I am pretty sure that it is absolutely legal). I always try to make sure to be fully compliant with german law, even if I would interpret the law absolutely differently.
Anyway, there are at least some few bug-fixes in this update, e.g. creating an image having the artist and CD title as filename will now show the file dialog properly when special characters are used.
For the next version it is still planned to add test & copy of CD images and for the version after that I will try to implement Unicode support for freedb queries and main window display and edit.
I am sorry about all this, but please understand my point of view."

So, other than special characters in the image filename, why would someone choose to use .95b4 over .95 b3? Are there any other advantages that are not listed?

As far as the discussions here at HA, I believe the correct forum is CD Hardware/Software:

Thanks. I revived the EAC b4 thread and asked in the harware/software forum. Sorry about that. Obviously, I haven't checked back here in a while (I just finally ordered a DAP.)
