Hi,
My name is Robin and I'm a mastering engineer. I'm very interested in the development of ReplayGain and I'm a programmer myself. I was wondering if there has been recent developping for ReplayGain of if there is going to be more development?
Basically I want to put time in it, and here is the folowing idea. I'd like to change the algorithm for detecting the loudness of a song to a better one, there have been a lot of listening tests withing the ITU SRG3-list and a lot of countrys have done tests on this. I'd like to choose a better algorithm for this.
Secondly I'd like to make ReplayGain better accesable. I'm thinking of integrating the calculation into a database, either FreeDB or I could build my own server for serving this database. What I'd like to see is that once a new CD get's imported and there CD title, ... gets stored into FreeDB (if using FooBar,..), I like to use the algorithm which should be build into the software, calculate both trackgain and albumgain, which can be stored into a db together with into the tags of the file. After that when someone puts in the same cd, the information will be pulled from the database and be put into the tag automatically without having to calculate it again.
I'm sure there are some little disadvantages that will come to mind, but what do you think of this proposal, do you think I'll get far with trying to achieve this?
Thanks for your help, and if any developers of foobar are reading this, please contact me if your interested. I'm sure that if we could get this to work right, it will be a whole new step forward into the current music business and will open up the eyes of other music player which you will be the first of.
Thanks for reading this and I hope someone can help me or guide me in the right direction.
Robin
