hello ogg folks,

i tried oggenc2 for the first time. here are short cmdline examples

CODE
oggenc2 -q 6,4 "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules.wav" -o "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules.ogg"
Opening with wav module: WAV file reader
Encoding "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules.wav" to
         "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules2.ogg"
at quality 6,40
        [ 99,3%] [ 0m00s remaining] /

Done encoding file "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules2.ogg"

        File length:  1m 32,0s
        Elapsed time: 0m 07,0s
        Rate:         13,1905
        Average bitrate: 201,4 kb/s

oggenc2 -q 6.4 "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules.wav" -o "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules.og
g"
Opening with wav module: WAV file reader
Encoding "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules.wav" to
         "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules1.ogg"
at quality 6,00
        [ 99,3%] [ 0m00s remaining] \

Done encoding file "Phoenix - 01 - School's rules1.ogg"

        File length:  1m 32,0s
        Elapsed time: 0m 07,0s
        Rate:         13,1905
        Average bitrate: 192,3 kb/s

anywhere i read i should use quality 6-4 for very good quality but which is the right "," or ".", because in the wiki and the oggenc2 help the "." is specified but obviously the "," works for more bitrate? blink.gif

Looks like a localization issue.

Only 6,4 seems to be correctly recognized with your settings, 6.4 turns out as 6.0 as you can see from the output you've posted.

answer for the local question -> i live in germany and use frontah for encoding.

Err, "6-4" means "somewhere between 6 and 4", not 6,4.

I bet my butt that -q 6 will be totally transparent to your (and most other people's) ears.

You probably won't be able to differentiate between -q4 and -q6 anyway. I consider -q6 to be the "paranoia" setting (high enough quality for peace of mind, even though a lower quality would be adequate).

Well, just ABX it. Convert two versions of a few tracks from different albums, one with -q4, the other with -q6 and try to tell if you can hear a difference.

i wrote the "-" why i don't know which sign is the right wether "," or "."
i only want to know which is the right decimal sign for encoding usage

On Windows XP you need to use the same decimal separator that is configured in your locale settings (Regional and language options > Customize...). For some reason Vorbis (at least the encoders from Rarewares) seems to check this.

In my opinion it would be better if the encoder would accept both variations, the dot and the comma.

I don't know what happens if the decimal separator is configured to be something else or on other OSs.
