I would like to know the bitrate for each frame of a vbr mp3, especially with regard to the actuall time-location of the frame in the file. Lame shows a histogram during vbr encoding that indicates the distribution of bitrates, but I want to know the locations in a file where the bitrate goes high due to a presumably complex or difficult-to-encode signal.

I looked at mp3x, but for one thing, I can't get it going on my mac. It won't build without gtk and a number of other things...and I don't know if mp3 shows this information anyway. What is the best way to inspect an mp3 frame-by-frame and see what's going on?

Thanks.
