Full Version: EAC overrides settings at image + cue?

Hello everbody,

My EAC settings are:
a) "Delete leading and trailing silent blocks"
b) "Leave out gaps"

I tested the same cd with the following settings (all files are wav)

1) EAC rip using "multiple tracks" to "multiple files"
2) EAC rip using "range" with full range
3) EAC rip using "image + cue"

then
a) convert multiple files (from 1) with foobar2000 to one file
b) convert multiple files (from 1) with EAC wav editor to one file (append)

The converted/appended file (1a, 1b) and the range file (2) are bit-identical,
only the image file (3) is different.

"Comparing failed
(length mismatch :
1:12:45.853333 vs
1:12:51.026667,

192534132 vs
192762276 samples)"

The missing samples seem to be silent blocks.

So can anybody confirm that:
a) When creating "image + cuesheet" EAC overrides the settings of deleting silent blocks?
b) for a one-file-wav of multiple tracks without silent blocks I need to do a range copy or join multiple files?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You're absolutely right, it does override the setting when ripping an image with a cuesheet. I didn't know this before but just verified it. Also, If you instruct EAC to create a log file it will tell you whether silent blocks are deleted.

EAC does not override the delete leading and trailing silent blocks setting when ripping ranges. Silent blocks are blocks that are comprised of nothing but null samples. For EAC delete them, they must exist at either edge of a track or range. EAC will not delete silent blocks from within a range or within a track. EAC treats a range as one long track. When instructing it to delete leading and trailing silent blocks it does exactly that. In the case of (1) matching (2), tracks 2 through the second to last track of the disc you're testing do not begin or end with silent blocks.

Finally, EAC includes gaps when ripping images. When ripping ranges, it will not omit gaps that are contained within the range you specify, just as it will not remove silent blocks that are not on the edges of the range you specify.
