Full Version: Dual-Layer DVD+Rs Safe for Archiving?

I've been using single-layer Taiyo Yuden DVDs to archive my collection, but I'm thinking of going dual-layer. The only brand of dual-layer media being sold in my neck of the woods that I trust would be Verbatim's DVD+R DLs.

Anyone have any advice? Should I go for dual-layered media? Should I avoid it for now? Am I way too paranoid by even asking such a question? unsure.gif

I've checked digitalFAQ's Blank DVD Media Quality Guide and noticed that Verbatim's DLs are listed as a top choice, so I'm guessing my question's already been answered. Guess I'm just looking for reassurance. Or that others are using dual-layered DVDs to archive.

I have never bothered with dual layer as they are so expensive compared to single layer.

Also, there is the "all your eggs in one basket" issue.

For the price of one dual layer blank you could save three copies of your data on six single layer blanks, giving you lots of redundancy. As for the time involved, the single layer blanks are probably 16X media and the dual layer blanks may only be 2.4X.

I only use dual layer media for movies that I absolutely can't fit onto a single layer blank.
