Full Version: EAC seems to be broken

All the CDs I rip with it just produce sounds of continuous clicking. I know that it's neither the CD nor the drives because the CDs worked a few days ago and the drive still works with other programs.
Never_Again
Tried another ripper?
Jarn
Yes, as I said I tried it in other programs and it works.

I experienced the clicking problem once, a long time ago. I think it was caused by checking some option in EAC that allowed the external compression program to run while the next track was being read. I use Windows Media Encoder to encode to WMA Lossless files. I had to uncheck that option, so that each track gets compressed before the next tract is read, in order to fix the clicking. If I remember correctly, that solved the problem.
Jarn
If that option is the one I think it is, I don't have it enabled. Furthermore, I haven't changed any of my settings since EAC worked.

Jarn, are you using the Native SCSI interface? or something else like the Nero wnaspi32.dll?

I had that problem recently, the clicks stopped when I stopped using the Nero DLL. I don't know what the cause of the problem is though.

  • enable secure ripping mode
  • check if DMA is enabled for that drive
  • in case you have the SPTD driver installed (Daemon Tolls, Alcohol 120%) and you're using Nero's ASPI driver for EAC, then you must update to the latest beta version of SPTD (1.45b) or else Nero's ASPI will not work correctly

I bet that is my problem, but I don't know what SPTD is. I did install Daemon Tools recently and I installed Nero's ASPI, but not system-wide, I just put it in the folder for the program I am using. What is SPTD?
Fandango
SPTD is the interface Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120% use to access the optical drives, just like ASPI or Microsoft's SPTI that comes with Windows 2000(?) and later. It's developed by Duplex Secure.

Go to the Duplex Secure homepage and download the beta version directly from their forum: http://forum.duplexsecure.com/showthread.php?t=274

Thanks a lot, I'll try that when I get home! smile.gif

Thanks Fandango, I read somewhere about problems with daemon tools/SPTD, but didn't think it would interfere with the Nero dll. Thanks for the tip.
