Hiya,
Been trying to research headphones online for ages and not having any luck. Went down to J&R in NY today to get some and got even more paranoid about which to get. There are so many options and we're meant to stand there and just choose to fork over a ton of cash with no option to return them if we dont like them.

Anyway, I currently have some Sony MDR-EX71's which to be quite honest I like - I usually listen to Hip-Hop,R&B,Rock, etc so I enjoy a fair amount of bass.
Unfortunately the chord on mine has gone all flabby so to speak and has now broken in several places so needs replacing. From what I read on one forum board this is quite common on them so I'm hesitant to just get identical ones.

The ones I've basically more or less decided on (open to other suggestions as alot of the posts are outdated) are:

Shure e2c
Etymotic er6i
Ultimate Ears Super.fi
Sony EX71's (my current ones just worried they'll break again).


Want to spend between $30 -> not much more than $100
Willing to consider options above if they're exceptional but thats rough guide.

Speakers


Just bought some JBL Creatures II after having wanted them for ages having read a ton of great reviews about them.
Just wired them up however though and I'm far from blown away. They're really not that powerful and the sound I dont find to be that clear and crisp.

Anyone got any other suggestions of other speakers for $100 or less they'd recommend - want to use them for my bedroom so want some that look half decent and are clear and powerful.

I like my Sennheiser CX300 very much which is very well in your price range.

Comparing them to my new ultimate ears super.fi 5 pro (4 times more expensive) they are not really a lot behind (though hard to compare as they sound very different).

As for the speakers I like the JBL Control 1 which are around 100 €. They have an extremely vivid sound. I use them in my car and they're great there. It's the same for rooms if the room is not too large. They are very efficient and don't need a lot of power, but in large rooms they are lacking bass and require a subwoofer. I'm considering using them with my pc which is positioned in a large room (and use them together with a subwoofer which I already own).

Just bought the CX300 from B&H - Cost me $60 and the sounds pretty good.
I personally dont notice much difference between them and the old Sony MDR-EX71's but that might just be because of the quality of the mp3's I'm using.

I'll have to do some side by side tests.
