Hi to everybody!
I'm trying to use EAC to encode my cds into .APE looseless format.
I followed the guide of this site concerning the parameters of the exeternal encoder but at the end of the extraction process I have only a not compressed .waw file and no .ape.
I have seen some posts of people with the same problem but without identifying the right solution.

Here the log of the process so you can see the additional command line option:
---------------------
EAC extraction logfile from 29. May 2007, 22:27 for CD
Various / Jazziz Presents Music From Nova

Used drive : HL-DT-STDVDRAM GSA-T20L Adapter: 1 ID: 0
Read mode : Secure with NO C2, accurate stream, NO disable cache
Combined read/write offset correction : 0
Overread into Lead-In and Lead-Out : No

Used output format : C:\Programmi\Exact Audio Copy\wapet.exe (User Defined Encoder)
320 kBit/s
Additional command line options : %d -ape2 -t "Artist=%a" -t "Title=%t" -t "Album=%g" -t "Year=%y" -t "Track=%n" -t "Genre=%m" C:\Programmi\Exact Audio Copy\mac.exe %s %d -c3000

Other options :
Fill up missing offset samples with silence : Yes
Delete leading and trailing silent blocks : No
Native Win32 interface for Win NT & 2000

End of status report

I'm using Exact Audio Copy V 0.95 beta 4.

Wapet.exe and Mac.exe are in the same dir of EAC.... crying.gif blink.gif

Someone can help me?

Thanks

Thanks! I will try this evening. It looks easy.....I hope so....

I'm totally new of EAC and these tools. At the beginning is a little complicate blink.gif but I hope to find some lights at the end of the tunnel. smile.gif
It seems that this forum is one of these.

Cos I'm at the beginning of the ripping activity do you suggest to use REACT 2.0? I saw that is a plug in of EAC. What advantages can I have?

In general my goal is to archive all my cd's in .APE as loosless format ad use AAC or MP3 as portable format, using Foobar2000 as player on pc. What bitrate do you suggest in this case? I saw very complicated but accurate benchmark on this forum about lossy format. Using a "non techical" approach I feel differences playing an mp3 on my HIFI when the bitrate is under 192kbps. What do you think is the best solution?

Thanks again.

All I've done is surround the path to MAC.EXE with quotes.

One of the many benefits of REACT is that you could rip to Monkey's Audio and ACC/MP3 at the same time. You would need to edit the REACT config to include Monkey's audio support though, but I've written a wiki article documenting how you can add support for TAK, so you could use that as a guideline; neither can tag themselves or have natural pipe support, so you can essentially replace "TAK" with "APE", "TAKC.EXE" with "MAC.EXE", and adapt the encoding commands accordingly.

Regarding bitrate for lossy files: you should really do a few trial encodes and perform an ABX test to see what bitrate is best for you.

Hi,
unfortunately nothing happened. I copied your instruction in the "additional command line option" of EAC
%d -ape2 -t "Artist=%a" -t "Title=%t" -t "Album=%g" -t "Year=%y" -t "Track=%n" -t "Genre=%m" "C:\Programmi\Exact Audio Copy\mac.exe" %s %d -c3000
but I have he same result. A .waw fle and a .m3u file (I do not remember what is this file....) anyway no .ape files has been created. The log is the same and it looks that everithing is ok. But is not true. crying.gif

Do you have some suggestion?

Thanks again.

Is the file extension set as ".ape"? Does your "Compression options" dialogue look like the wiki?

The only other thing I can suggest is trying to run wapet from the command line to make sure that it will run at all.

Sorry, can't see anything else obvious...

Actually, I'm not sure that -ape2 is a valid switch; it's possible that is confusing wapet.

In any case thanks for your answers and your support.

Hi!
Now is ok.The -ape2 parameter confused wapet.exe.
Few more question.
1) the compression parameter influences the reading speed or only the compression speed performed after EAC ha completed the .waw creation?
2) What is the m3u created with .ape file? I have read that it is a "playlist"....but playlist of what?! I'm ripping a cd only...

Anyway...I'm going deeper into this site and forums and I found every day something interesting. Congratulation to everyone is contributing to it.

Thanks

The compression parameter (-c3000) only affects the compression and encoding/decoding speed of Moneky's Audio. The encoding process does not begin until the WAVE is fully ripped.

I don't really use M3U files - I guess it would be more useful if you were ripping to tracks. Just uncheck the (presumed) checkbox.
