Full Version: Preserve directory structure when converting

I have all my music in FLAC format in directories structured like this: I:\Music\Genre\Artist\Album\Songs.
I want to convert all FLAC to MP3 (keeping FLAC unchanged) to G:\ ( a different drive) keeping the same directory structure by mass converting. Is this possible with Foobar2000? dry.gif

In the preferences of the Converter in the "single tracks" field use backslashes to create directories

f.e.:
Music\%genre%\%artist%\%album%\$num(%tracknumber%,2) - %title%

Thanks, works great

I want to do the same thing that Andrew has descibed; to convert a massive collection of FLACs to MP3s on a DIFFERENT DRIVE.

I could do it easily in version 0.8.3 where you can assign the drive first at the top, then gave another box where you filled in the path information. In version 0.9x the box where you tell it what drive you want it to go has disappeared, so now all I can do is convert them all to the same drive letter where the FLACs are. I am totally frustrated with this. How the he** do I get the new foobar to mass convert into another DRIVE letter and path? The key here is the Drive letter--I know how to do the path part.

This is what I want to do:

F:\FLACs\Artist\ etc
Convert to mp3s and place in J:\ drive with whatever path structure I give it.

J:\MP3\%artist%\%album%\ etc.

The problem is the J:\ if I put that in the path name, foobar is creating an J_ directory underneath my F: drive. It seems that foobar is reading the intended drive letter as directory text name (hence the illegal slash being converted to an underscore).

Does anybody have a solution to this? Otherwise it looks like Im stuck with 0.8.3. forever. HELP!

Easiest way: Do what Andrew123 did, select the files you like to convert, right click "Convert/Convert to...", select your codec, hit "OK" and select J:\MP3 as your output directory...

Thanks yerma, however that won't work either. As soon as you right-click on "convert to..." choose the encoder and then browse to the the drive letter--foobar completely ignores the path statement that is put in Output File Names for Single tracks.

In .0.83 and foobar would start in the user selected default output directory then start creating the directory structure based on the path in the "Output Filename formating" box.
Preferences>Components>Diskwriter

The Output file names is 0.8.3 would create folders that do not already exist hence being able to recreate the entire directory structure on a separate drive. I would start in the J:\MP3 directory and 0.8.3 would create the %variable folders and subfolders underneath it and place the mp3 in the right folders.

In v 0.8.3 this path \MP3\%ARTIST%\%ALBUM%\%_filename%
would result in many artist and album directoies
e.g.
J:\MP3\Bon Jovi\Bounce <--- the mp3s would wind up here in the proper artists and albums folders.

I version 0.9x The converter settings are no longer called Diskwriter, but in Preferences>Tools>Converter in the box "Output File names" for Single tracks at the top of the screen:

I was expecting to click on the browser thing and choose J:\MP3\ directory as my starting point. Then foobar would again read my Output file names path and continue on from there.

I entered the same path \MP3\%ARTIST%\%ALBUM%\%_filename%
This results in nothing but all files being dumped into J:\MP3 with no folders of any kind being created.

Have I missed something here? Has all the much-depended on functionality of the converter been gutted with no ability to mass encode to user-defined directories? Please tell me it isnt so... sad.gif

Holy bugginess batman, I just found out the solution to this problem by accidently stumbling onto another thread found here:

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....c=51079&hl=

It had nothing to do with my path or selecting the initial directory at all. It turns out that the converter will not sort and create folders if you are only converting 1 file at a time. You must be converting at least 2 files at a time. Then it will create your directories based on your variables and place the converted mp3s into those directories just as I planned.

This is a very quirky requirment/bug? It was no problem converting only 1 file at a time in 0.8.3.
