I have managed to save some cash and am going to purchase some Earbud, sound isolating, type headphones.
Main use will be for iPod but they will also be used on my Arcam system

Any advice on what to look at, audition etc would be welcome.

Top line for my budget is a maximum of £150

Cheers

Sennheiser MX400 is a pretty solid earbud, and probably the best out there as far as audio quality goes.

However, from personal experience I've found that canalphones tend to be quite a bit better as far as isolation and sound quality... and when it comes to canalphones my personal favourites so far are Shure E2C's. I have a pair of E3C's but they're not quite as comfortable as the E2C's so that's why I'd recommend the E2C's over the E3C's.

Thanks for the response!

I have however a bit more money available (maximum of £150.00)

Head on over to head-fi.org smile.gif Lots of useful reviews on them.

I have some Westone UM-2s which came to about £175 on ebay but they sound better with custom molds which are more on top.

The Etymotics ER-4S and 4P phones retail for about $170-190 in the US nowadays. They're not for everybody, but for the price, they are extremely competitive.

Hi,

I bought the Shure E4C earbuds for a little more than EUR 200 a while ago (it was through a mass-buy action, but still... good value!)

If you'd manage to find these earbuds for around £150 (or even a little more), buy them... they rock!

cheers,

d.

The Sennheiser MX-500s are the best inexpensive earbuds I have ever used. I've had some Sony, Panasonic, Apple earbuds over the past few years, and these MX-500s definitely win in build quality.

you might want to wait a month and a half before investing as sennheiser is going to launch a new earbud line up this august, including the successor to the cx300 the cx400 (which considering the quality of my current cx300 set, I'm thinking an upgrade might be in order) , and if you're not into the in-ear style, they are also launching the mx660 and what I guess must be a sports edition the OMX50, anyway here's a link to the offiial announcement pdf in German (anyone up for some translating?

My ultimate ears super.fi 5 pro were 240 € so are pretty much within your price range.
They're excellent (though a bit uncomfortable to wear for my ears - this can always be an issue with canal phones when they seal well).
However the question is whether it's worth while to spend so much money (maybe I'm a bit too curious about these things). I am pretty happy with my CX300 too.

Crossroads Mylarone, Mylarone XB (extra bass), and Mylarone X3 (considered a successor to the Mylarone).

I bought the Mylarone at S$45 and the Mylarone X3 at S$65 in Singapore.

The Future Sonics Atrio M5 earphones seem to be getting good reviews. I've just taken the plunge and ordered some from here http://www.handheldaudio.co.uk They cost just under £100, but the reviews state that they give other IEMs costing twice the price a run for their money.

Has any one else here tried them?
