Not sure where I should post this, hopefully TBeck won't mind if I put it here. I have a sample I'd like 2Bdecided and maybe also TBeck to try with their "VBR" pre-processors for lossy/lossless encoders.
Unlike the samples that were tested earlier, this kind of music is super Easy for the lossy modes. I've attached the file in lossless WavPack format. This sample compresses awfully when lossless, requiring over 1200 kbps. However, as a lossy file, as far as I can tell it is transparent at 200 kbps and possibly even lower. So this should be a good test to see how dynamic the range of the VBR algorithms are. What kind of bitrate will they choose in the end, and will the result still be transparent?
