Hi, i have a mp3 album which is low volume. My steps are
1. foobar2000, preferences and go to black back and with RG info, +12.00
2. Album (source mode)
3. Apply gain and prevent clipping according to peak.
4. Close out the preferences window.
5. high light the album i wish to use.
6. Scan Selection as single album/updated the file
7. Apply Album replaygain to mp3 data

Then i restarted foobar and the songs were all still low.
So then i went back into preferneces and playback
then i changed number 3 step, to Apply Gain, and restarted foobar and it made the songs louder as i wanted it too. So, why don't it work under Apply Gain And Prevent CLipping According To Peak, or am i doing something wrong?

Can someone tell me how to make this work without losing anymore quality?

Clipping prevention means Replaygain won't make your music louder than possible without decoder clipping, so it is possible that your music's peak value is so high that any increase in volume would lead to clipping. This results in the music not getting any louder.

As for the "louder as I wanted" part: +12 dB is waaaaaaay too much! Almost all music clips horribly at that target volume. Use a lower value like +3 or +4 dB instead.

Silversight, thanks for the info. I'm new to this mp3 game. I don't hear any clipping with the +12 at all. The cd is just low and i hate to fiddle with the volume and the next album waking someone up lol.

I was wondering, is there any proper way of making the album louder with replaygain with out clipping? , or to actually get the album louder with out changing volume of foobar/ volume on speaker, or is what i did already ok>? I know this isn't a collectible cd or anything but i still wouldn't want to hear that clickin/poping sound, which i dont hear right now.

Maybe some steps?

I assume you mean the Playback > Preamp value. smile.gif

Actually, you should use the default 0 dB preamp value instead of +12 dB if you want to make the albums to play at the same volume level.

For example, a relatively quiet, but uncompressed album can have a replay gain value like 0 dB and still have peaks that reach 1.0 (the maximum possible unclipped value). A compressed loud album can have a replay gain value of -10 dB and peaks that reach 1.0 as well.

When you play these albums with the default 0 dB preamp value the quiet album is not altered and the loud album has a -10dB correction.

When you play these albums with the +12 dB preamp value & clipping prevention neither of the albums are corrected because both would clip with any positive correction. (-10 +12 = +2 dB)

If the quiet album is very quiet on average and still have some very dynamic peaks you may need to use even smaller preamp value like -3 dB, -6 dB or so. This happens quite often with classical music.
