Full Version: Force Lame to accept my custom genre

I've just setup EAC with Mareo to get FLAC (backup) and MP3 (for iPod) Lame-rips which is really nice. The only thing that bothers me is that Lame won't accept my custom genre.
I've added the "--ignore-tag-errors"-switch to my script which makes Lame continue but it will change the genre to "Other" which is quite lame.

Adding id3v2 didn't make any difference and using the "--id3v2-only"-switch didn't change anything either. I don't mind if the id3v1-tag puts "Other" as genre (as far as I know it doesn't support custom genres) but I want the id3v2-tag to use my custom genre.

If Lame doesn't allow me to do this, are there any tagging utilities with command line-support that I can add to my Mareo-script after the Lame-encoding is done to change my genre to whatever EAC passes on to Mareo? I really don't want my iPod to show most songs as "Other", I use a lot of custom genres and I use them for a reason.

Well, check out LAME 3.98 beta 4:

you want either:
1. lame 3.97 with id3v2 patches (rarewares)
-or-
2. lame 3.98b4 (or later) from anywhere (rarewares, cvs, etc.)

i would use:
lame --add-id3v2 --id3v2-only --pad-id3v2 --ignore-tag-errors --tg "whatever" IN.wav OUT.mp3

later

edit: damn you robert!!! smile.gif
edit: i lied about the lame 3.97 patch. it only includes albumart...

Thank you.

What are the differences in sound quality between 3.97 and 3.98b4 if I'm using V0?

I can't find that patch on rarewares xmixahlx, would you mind giving me a link?
xmixahlx
if you ask real nicely perhaps john33 (or someone else on teh windows) will compile you a 3.97 release with this patch...

or you could just use 3.98b4. if you are using the vbr (-V0, -V2) settings then it's a good bet anyways.

I'll keep things simple and use 3.98b4 then. Thank you.
