For all Debian and Ubuntu (GNU/Linux) users, I have managed to create a drop-in replacement package of libvorbis that incorporates the aoTuV b5 patch.

The packages are available at:

http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito/libvorbis/

I think that Mike may get inspiration for it from this package or that we can build packages for amd64 and powerpc systems.

To the best of my knowledge, these packages follow the Debian Policy as well as I know. So, if you use one of the afore mentioned distributions of Linux, don't be hesitant of using aoTuV b5 integrated with your favorite packaging system.

I hope this helps, Rogério Brito.

It surely does, thank you very much. For the moment I keep using Windows-based solutions, if it's about processing audio and video contents. That's mainly due to the lack of Linux applications which offer similar functionality and comfort compared to the Windows ones, like the GordianKnot collection as well as EAC+REACT2. But at least I'm searching for suitable Linux alternatives to be able to do the work on my favoured Kubuntu installation someday, and your Debian package surely veers towards this goal.

in the past i had aotuv tunings replacing the official *vorbis* packages, but i opted to instead offer seperate packages for all the various vorbis tunings.

My initial intention was to have it be adopted by the Debian Developers of the Xiph.org packages. Unfortunately, even after quoting the minutes of the xiph.org members, it seems that they don't consider it for inclusion in the official Vorbis packages.

Since I have one (chinese) media player (an "MP4" one) that plays Vorbis, I do have all intentions of using very low bitrates, so that I can actually use the player comfortably.

I will try to convince them to generate (from the debian sources) another libvorbis binary. Let's see if it goes anywhere. In the mean time, if you wish to update your package based on what I did, please let me know.

Regards, Rogério Brito.

P.S.: Could the layout of the rarewares/debian repository be modified a little bit? I would love to contribute some amd64 binaries and also to be able to mirror it properly with debmirror (please, take a serious look on this package if you can). This way, I think that we could avoid single point of failures.

I just sent you an e-mail. Let's hope that my e-mails don't end up on your garbage bin (by Yahoo!).

Hi, Mike.

I'm waiting for any reply so that we can structure the repositories.

Regards, Rogério.
