Hi I was looking all over musicgiant.com site and see they had on main page there going DRM free which is great. Do you guys know if I did download anything off that if there is a way to convert to flac or is it still that hard to too? Also have you guys figured out which is DRM free? I also see you can now buy single tracks off album which is a new break through smile.gif

They sell DRMed WMA Lossless files. You CAN burn them to CDs and use EAC to make them "DRM free".

It would appear that the OP says that Music Giants is removing DRM, and is asking how to tell if DRM is present or not. While I don't personally know the answer offhand...

I believe the only way to tell if a WMA file has DRM or not would be to either right-click on it and left-click on properties in Windows Explorer or to open the file in Windows Media Player and right-click on the file and left-click on properties through that. Either method should tell you if the file is protected or not.

I think you can use foobar2000 to convert non-DRM WMA lossless files to FLAC or any other format you want. I think dbpoweramp R12.2 will also convert non-DRM WMA lossless files. DRM'ed WMA lossless files will have to be burned to a audio CD through Windows Media Player (or their software) then ripped to FLAC.

dbPoweramp's Windows Shell extension will also tell you via its information popup if the WMA in question is DRMed.

In any case, the DRM question is one you want answered BEFORE the file even gets to your PC. I don't see any reason for MusicGiants to lie about what they're offering, and if you find they are, don't buy from them any more. Check their FAQ or email them if you're still unsure.

yea I was going to buy some stuff tongiht from Music Giants, I would like my stuff in flacs to save space. In order to make DRM free do I just burn as a regualar CD and then after its burned to CD it can be convertable to Flac like a CD you buy in a store?

Yes that would definitely work.

As an aside, if you could somehow skip the actual burning process i.e. burn to an image and then mount the image and rip it, you could probably save a lot of time / energy. I don't know how this would be done though. AFAIK Nero's image writer thing doesn't work for audio cds.

ok I picked some music out but I dont get this bottom part when buying music does this mean I have to pay a fee 20$ every month? or is this like a club? I just want to buy the music or do you have to pay this once a month? Say I dont buy anything monthly will I get billed? says nothing about monthly here is a copy and paste. Check help and faq not a mention ever.

anyone here by chance buy something from them before?

Current account balance: $0.00
Add these additional funds: 0.00
Total amount to be billed: $20.00
Note that the minimum transaction amount is $20. Any credit remaining after this purchase will be added to your current account balance.

I think what they mean is that you pay in blocks of $20. So if your cd costs $11, you have $9 "store credit" remaining. Buying a cd seems to be a MUCH better option.

I've used it successfully before, to convert DRM'd WMA Lossless, it was a while ago though... Just go to portable devices in WMP, choose the nero 'quick burning' plugin or whatever its called, burn to a .img file instead of a drive, then mount with daemon-tools or nero imagedrive and rip with anything, there's no chance of read errors and therefore no need for EAC.

here is a reply from a email I sent to customer support about what I said:

All this means is that the minimum amount of money you can put into your account at any given time is $20. This is not a monthly fee it is pay as you go.
