Lamedrop decodes MP3 files, when you drop them. It would be great, if there were a transcoding/decoding-switch to change lamedrops behaviour. Then one could transcode MP3 files directly to a memory card or a portable device, for example.

I'll certainly look at it. smile.gif

I think the only reason it wasn't there before is that people on here have only relatively recently come to acknowledge that transcoding, at least for use on portable devices, isn't necessarily the big 'evil'. wink.gif After all, if the transcoded result is good enough for ones own consumption, it's not really anyone elses concern is it?

This may, or may not, be easy to implement, I can't remember whether I'll need to make much in the way of code changes. rolleyes.gif

Thank you very much for lamedropXPd and your reply!

Of course, decoding should be set as standard.

My car stereo for example reads sd-cards up to 1 gb. For long trips, it is really worth transcoding my high-bitrate files (usually from -V 2 to -V 6). I suppose, it is useful for mobile-phones, too.

John, if you are going to have a closer look on LameDropXPd, support for losslessly compressed input files (FLAC) would be great as well.

Perhaps if I'm going to get 'into' the code again I should consider the long promised changes, particularly in the tagging department, 'a la' oggdropXPd. That would also include lossless inputs. unsure.gif
