I personally use the official playback statistics component but I have been intrigued by other play counter components. Unfortunately I cannot see the benefits of writing the stats to a custom database. What are the advantages over just having it written to the .CFG as happens with the official component?
Also does anyone know if it is possible to transfer official stats from the CFG to another database?
- The author doesn't know how to write to foobar cfg file (foo_custom_pc).
- I believe writing those infos to another database is safer as those data file won't go vapor if foobar developer changes the format of the cfg file and again nukes it info (like from 0.8 to 0.9). In case custominfo's developer release his source code then that make it safer to use his component even if he disappears (maybe someone will pick it up). Also custominfo database is based on SQLite 3 that can be accessed by other means if you want to (like writing a new component to read from the old DB).
- Maybe faster as I've noticed slow down with my music collection and official playcount component when I still on my old computer. Now I'm on a new computer though so I can be sure about this statement but anyway custominfo works as fast as it isn't there.
- If you don't want to lose playback info for sure then the only way is to use one that write those infos to tags.
