Hello;

I recently upgraded my CD Burner because it couldn't read DVD's.

I purchased an LG Electronics GSA-H44L Super Multi DVD ReWriter.

Now I am trying to figure the Offsets for EAC, which I barely understand.

I found 5 key discs in my 60-80 CD collection that were in the AccuRip database, that read as follows:

Disc 1: +667
Disc 2: +1331
Disc 3: + 1343
Disc 4: +667
Disc 5: +1331

Since I needed 3 key discs with the same offset, I tried manual method in EAC - that I read.

1.) Used EAC and copied a CD using Test & Copy (Secure ?) method.
2,) Burned CD.
3.) Used EAC and copied burned CD using Test & Copy (Secure ?) method.
4.) Compared ea track of original to ea track of burned CD.

EAC shows ea track of burned CD is "0:00:02.026 longer".
(EDITED - Changed to 02.026 and NOT 02:026)

Which means a positive Offset - as I understand it, but by how much?

What to do now? How do I set Offsets with this info?

P.S. The LG GSA-H44L was not in any, esp. AccuRip databases.
Howeve, similar Lg GSA-H models had values of +667.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Your read offset correction is +667, aren't you able to find a third CD?

The other method you're using determines your combined read/write offset correction not the read offset correction. Your drive may have a write samples offset of 0 but I wouldn't count on it.

I don't use that specific method, but you need to know the difference in samples, not in time. Also, in "0:00:02:026" the ":026" part makes no sense, shouldn't it read "0:00:02.026"? Even if it does, a thousandth of a second is not fine enough to resolve individual samples.

After taking another look at this number, I fear that you may have a problem since the tracks should be the same size but will suffer missing samples due to a shift. Did you check the size of the wave files (in bytes) to make sure they were the same? Make sure EAC isn't configured to delete leading and trailing silent blocks. Also, make sure that you aren't adding 2 seconds of silence between tracks.

Finally, T&C is secure so long as the T-part and the C-part match.

1.) Edited text to 02.026 (Thanks.)
2.) How did you conclude it should be +667 - without a third CD?
3.) You're correct, went back and for example original track 2 is 37,100 KB and copy is 37449 KB
4.) No, I do not have 2 seconds of silence configured to be added in EAC

5.) However, I did use CDBurner XPPro 3 to burn the Extracted CD before re-extracting the burned copy.
And NOT EAC. I couldn't figure out if EAC could burn CD's.
Actually I was getting a write error. "long text ...."
Further investigation revealed that the CD actually wrote, don't know why got write error at end.

6.) Would it help to know that I have the EAC V0.95 preBeta 5 from 8 March 2004 version?
And, as I recall, it took me weeks of reading, mostly from a DOC from or WebSite of some place called The Coaster Factory (???) I think, to set up EAC as it should be. And it's been two years (or more) since I touched any settings.

It's typical for your make of drive and you found two discs that give you the same number.

Then something went wrong when you ripped the source files, burned them, or both.

Did you make sure to tell CDBurner XPPro 3 to use disc-at-once? IIRC, the program burns audio in track-at-once mode by default which adds 2 seconds of silence between tracks.

Regarding your burning problems, maybe.

I did not realize that. Thanks! I used Track-at-once.

So, my best bet is to find a third CD with +667, and let Accurate Rip - Configure.

Yes, but it seems there are still ~2 frames of audio that are unaccounted for in your comparison.

Yes, because, as was suggested earlier, recorded Track-at-Once with CDBurnerXP Pro 3,
instead of Disc-at-Once - which i didn't know - adds the 2 seconds between tracks.

I was able to find a third CD, with +667 from one of my daughters.
And after I inserted it, Acurate rip (I guess) configured EAC; however, a peculiar thing happens:
When I go back into EAC and check the OffSet settings, the entire Ddialog box is grayed out.

Is that because Accurate rip took over and set the settings?
Is this normal?

That should only account for 2 seconds. Your comparison earlier indicated that the difference was 2.026 seconds.

Yes and yes.

You may want to temporarily remove the accuraterip dll from the EAC directory and select "Use read sample offset correction" and manually enter 667 into the dialog box if you didn't already before AR took it over. Otherwise, you may have problems with what offset is displayed in log files as well as having the wrong offset applied when performing extractions that aren't checked by AR, such as single-file images.

Is Andre aware of this little buglet?

It has been fixed in V0.99pb1.

I did that before AR took over; however, thanks for the advice.
I only did it by chance as a temporary, until I conformed wit AR that tht was the correct setting.
Fortunately it turned out to be correct.
