Heya Folk,

I've been using Nero on my 2ch AC3 to trancode to MP4 at Q 0.4 with fantastic results.

I have a great deal of 5.1 to do as well, and when I scale up the channels the nero codec doesn't perform very well in comparison to WMA 10 Pro or the origional AC3 - in fact Nero often bloats the file larger than AC3.

Been having a chat with Mauddib who says Nero have not yet optimised their codec for multichannel.

Anyone got any suggestions for an excelent LC-AAC codec, with VBR by Quality settings that is better tuned for multichannel content?

Thanks,

Dom.

Just out of curiousity, why are you transcoding 5.1 AC3?

Because (AKAIK) you can't stick AC3 into a valid MP4 file and for stereo, the bitrate efficiency is well worth it.

I'll take the defening silence as a resounding no : )

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mp4#Data_streams says no as well.

With Nero Recode this should be possible soon. You can read more about it on doom9
