Full Version: Problem extracting pre gap track with PX-800A & EAC

I've identified a CD with a pregap track (Sly & Robbie - Late Night Tales) which I want to extract

IPB Image

I'm having a bit of difficulty in extracting the hidden track from here using EAC 0.95b4 and wondered if my drive (Plextor PX-800A) might be the weakest link here? Can anyone point out where I'm going wrong if it isn't a hardware issue please?

This is a sample of the cue sheet for the CD in question:
------------------------------
REM GENRE Alternative
REM DATE 2003
REM DISCID EF10C112
REM COMMENT "ExactAudioCopy v0.95b4"

TRACK 02 AUDIO

I used the Copy Range [F7] option to identify the relevant blocks and extracted to .wav but all I got was 3:59 of silence. Needless to say, the extraction was full of synch errors. EAC produced this log:

I've also tried to copy the track using the Index Based option with similar results.

Am I meant to configure EAC a specific way to work around this? I've tried searching around for answers but cannot ever seem to come up with anything quite as conclusive as a YES this drive can extract pre-gap tracks or a NO it can't

I've also read that earlier versions of EAC (0.95b3) are more adept at doing this type of extraction but I don't know enough about this type of extraction to verify this.

The PX-800A is not a true Plextor drive. As such, it is likely that it can't read HTOA (pregap before the first track).

A rebranded model? Bah!

The read offset correction of +48 is a dead giveaway that it's using an NEC chipset instead of one by Sanyo.

EDIT: I removed something about HTOA, NEC chipsets and Pioneer drives because I mixed the feature up with overreading (which some Pioneer drives can do). I have no idea about HTOA.

Out of curiousity, can the PX-800A overread from either the lead-in, lead-out or both?

This [NEC info] is quite annoying saying as I bought this drive to replace a Sony NEC Optiac AD-5170A. Looks like I've got a similar replacement for more money sad.gif

As for the Lead-in/Lead-out I'm not sure. I have to admit to being pretty new to this (only bought the drive to try and extract the hidden track). Most of my extraction experience comes from archiving CDs to Flac with EAC. However, if you can point me in the right place of a tutorial or background info on the processes I'm willing to test to see if the drive supports these features.

FWIW, my PX-800A can NOT overread at all......
