Full Version: dbpowerAMP R12 + USB DVD Burner + C2 => Secure rip?

Oliver
I am considering switching from EAC to dbpowerAMP R12. A number of posters have indicated that it is as good or better than EAC. However, I caught a brief reference to some sort of question on the value of C2 when used with a USB CD/DVD drive. If I am using an usb DVD drive, should I rethink my decision to switch from EAC to dbpowerAMP? (Added - I have found some info about problems with C2 and dbpowerAMP R12 beta.) Does anyone have any info or a link to a thread? If using dbpowerAMP does not work out, I am considering using EAC with react.

PS I am planning to rip my entire CD collection to flac and ogg. Instead of using my Panasonic R4 laptop with an USB CD/DVD drive, I could use the internal CD/DVD on my old (and slow) Fujitsu P2120 laptop or I could borrow a Compaq V2000 laptop. However, after my current collection has been ripped, I will be using an USB CD/DVD drive.

Panasonic R4 with external ASUS SDRW-0804P-D DVD/CD (Would be willing to purchase a new external slim DVD burner)
Fujitsu P2120 with internal Toshiba SD-R6372
Compaq V2000 with internal LG drive HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4244N

I find dBpoweramp Reference to easier to setup and use than EAC. Also some tests have shown it to be more secure. Not sure how much of that is accurate, but I prefer dB over EAC now.

I would figure C2 depends on the drive. If your drive supports it then it supports it. It shouldn't matter if it's an external or internal drive or not. dBpoweramp checks if your drive supports C2 pointers or not when setting it up. You'll be asked to insert a CD that is very badly.

Spoon (creator of dB) uses these forums so he might notice this topic and reply.

FWIW, I have an internal drive that provides C2 pointers which dbpa doesn't support.
