Hey there,

My question is regarding Data ISOs being ripped with EAC. About a year ago, I started to make a audio collection, at this time I didn't know about EAC till I found this site. Since then, I've ripped about 50-100 audio CDs into Data ISOs. Say if I mount those ISOs with Alcohol120% and rip them with EAC, is the quality of the rip still CD quality? (CD quality as in the original music CD) Thanks a bunch.

In theory, if the ISO is not corrupted, you will have perfect rips everytime.

AFAIK because of audio CD's special structure only ripping the CD with a specialized program will result in the best results.
The only solution I could suggest is Accuraterip to check that your rips are bit perfect with other people's. But that's only a check. If it fails you'll have to rip the broken tracks directly from the original CD.
Good luck!

Yes, those rips weren't secure in the first place. And if you rip them from a virtual drive it's actually nothing but a more sophisticated file copy.

So as loft said: make sure to use AccurateRip, and don't use Secure Mode, it won't make sense at all because the harm's already done. Use Burst mode, it's faster, tho it won't make that much a difference when you're reading from your harddisc.

What's more is that the purpose of tools like Alc120 is to ignore read errors... they're the exact opposite to secure rippers like EAC.

Your problem isn't that Alc120 didn't copy all of the Audio or something like that, in theory it should be a perfect copy. But your problem is that it didn't check for errors.

PS: Make sure to use the latest version of EAC, 0.99pb1. It comes with AR.dll pre-installed and has a decent first-time wizard.

Doesn't it bother you that EAC has AR checking that test pass and not the copy pass when using T&C with 0.99pb1?

I don't see why this should matter in this case! rolleyes.gif No need to confuse him with something that doesn't matter here.

It's easier for him to use 0.99pb1, because the AR.dll is pre-installed.</Offtopic>

PS: No it doesn't bother me, since I know it's already fixed in the next version.

True.

You never know, he might use it on real discs (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=56518) and I'm guessing there might be some questions about how AR can be used to test an iso file. wink.gif

Sounds like you got an advance copy.

Yeah, indeed.

@d0ng: Make sure to check the EAC website for updates in the next few weeks (rather 1-2 months). A next major release (with less bugs) will be available there.

huh.gif If I were to guess, I'd say sooner than that.

Perhaps some bugs were fixed that haven't been brought to this forum's attention...

Have you tried ripping a range after testing a track?
...an easter egg of sorts. cool.gif

the read offset of the drive will be the read offset that ISO file

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. As for the ripping, I'm going to give it a go. Quite ironic of how one program doesn't check for errors and one does. I can't wait for the updates, love EAC. wink.gif
