As can be seen in this recent thread, http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=56526, iTunes has a lot of support which seems to be almost exclusively due to it's great, simple UI, however it is lacking in features, it can't even playback WMA or FLAC encoded files, it doesn't support non-iPod portables etc., and it's painfully slow.
With so many users on this forum keen on customising the appearance of foobar2000, and coding components to help them achieve their desired look & function, and given that foobar2000 gives component developers to provide a completely new UI, it suprises me that noone (with the exception of musicmusic/the excellent columns_ui) has begun a project to code a quality UI from scratch.
See Songbird for an example of a beautiful UI (which just happens to be remarkably similar to iTunes). Of course it's painfully slow and limited in functionality, but the design is great.
So, what I'm really asking is, is anyone interested in developing such an interface? I believe it would make foobar virtually unbeatable. While I don't have the UI design/coding skill or the time to do a decent job of such an interface, I may be willing to do my best to code a Cover Flow-like component which could fit into such a UI.
