Hi there,

I'm a foobar lover. The only thing that I don't like is my track order troubles.

Not all of my songs have correct filenames. That is to say, not all of them have a track number in the filename. They are all correctly tagged with the correct track number, but one thing I noticed is this:

1) If tracks imported onto a playlist in foobar have filenames with the track number in them, foobar puts them in track order.

2) If tracks imported onto a playlist in foobar DO NOT have filenames with the track number, foobar puts them in a seemingly random order.

I am using Columns UI and the latest version of foobar2000.

My media library should be in this order:
1) Artist (alphabetically)
2) Album (alphabetically)
3) Track number (in numerical order)

Could someone help me troubleshoot this?

Your imported files are being sorted by path. Change it to artist, album, tracknumber in the Preferences -> General -> "Sort incoming files by"

That's not random, it's alphabetical.

What do you want to do? Rename your tracks to suit the current incoming files sorting scheme? Always sort incoming files according to their tracknumber values, ignoring filenames?

The former is accomplished though foobar's File Operations menu. You'll have to add the tracks in question to the playlist, then rename them, then add again, this time they'll be in correct order.
To do the latter you'll need to change Preferences -> General -> Sort incoming files by: string to "%directoryname%$if2(%tracknumber%, %filename_ext%)". You may encounter some problems with files with wrong metadata, though.

Thanks for the help, kanak! Very simple.
