Full Version: Idea: Pre-amp value as tag (ReplayGain)

Hi!

At the moment Replaygain calculate the same level of loudness for all tracks. What if I like to have different a different loudness level for different tracks depending on my likes.

I know I can adjust a pre-amp setting to achieve different levels of loudness at playback, but I will have to change the setting for different tracks by hand if I want a different level for each track.

Why Do I want to change the level? Because I like to listen different genres at different levels of loudness.
Maybe I want to listen at classical music at a lower level and listen to rock music at a louder level.

What about storing the personal desired pre amp value as a tag in each audio file? An audio player has to read that tag an apply the pre-amp value to the music.

I'm not sure but I think this could be useful for people like me, who listen to music of (many) different genres.

I don't think this is the best way to get a significant volume change based on various genres of music.

You could use replaygain to do what you suggest by grouping all of your music by genre then setting a particular level anyway...
