I followed this guide exactly and still when I check my files with AQScript like it says here (step 4) I receive an error message that says something bout "AP (S, X, F)" and "Lame Tag error, your files are not in order.

Im using lame 3.90.3 and with that version I can't use the alt preset command cause it wont code the WAV to MP3 so I have to use this command line:

QUOTE
-V 0 --vbr-new --add-id3v2 --ignore-tag-errors --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tg "%m" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d

I will include the log file in like 10 to 20 minutes when I have ripped the CD again.

Here is the exact error message:

QUOTE
* Invalid encode of file "file name here": NOT AP{S,X,I}

* Error reading Lame tags; your MP3 files are NOT in order!
JunkieXL
You can't use that command line with lame 3.90.3. The --vbr-new switch was introduced in LAME 3.97 if I remember correctly.

Try using the recommended lame settings as in the wiki LAME wiki

Correction: you can use the V swiches with the --vbr-new command with LAME 3.94 LAME 3.97 is just the recommended version.

Yes, they're for newer LAME versions only, not old relics:

from HA Wiki:LAME

These settings require LAME 3.94 or later.

Yes, as in: you should be using 3.97, NOT 3.90.3. I definitely wouldn't be going back to bestmp3whatever if I were you. Stick to the wiki - it's a lot easier, makes a lot more sense and will generally not lead you astray or result in strange errors.
Synthetic Soul
--ignore-tag-errors definately won't work with 3.90.3.

Use 3.97, or possibly 3.98.

After I switched to 3.97 Ive gotten rid of the "NOT AP{S,X,I}" problem but it still says:

QUOTE
* Error reading Lame tags; your MP3 files are NOT in order!

and now it says something new as well:

QUOTE
* Invalid encode of file "filename here": NOT LAME 3.92, 3.90.2, or 3.90.3 but 3.97

At the bottom of the page you referred to regarding Step 4 (analyzing your files) it says:

I guess the Ubernet standard is out of date and no longer maintained. I haven't heard a lot about it for some years, though I'm not into MP3 file sharing. It does appear that the test that files meet the standard is restricted to only encoders and setting known at the time it was made and considered to be approved by hydrogenaudio at that time. This appeared to be a reasonable approach to setting and maintaining a minimum quality standard and excluding lower quality encodes, but it needs updating if improvements come along to prevent the exclusion of demonstrably higher-quality encodes. The only reason to adhere to such an outdated standard would be to participate in that file-sharing community, if it still exists. In many jurisdictions this is probably illegal and going into it too much could be in breach of TOS on these forums.

The Wiki in these forums describes setting up Exact Audio Copy or dBpowerAmp each with AccurateRip and setting them up to encode to LAME -V2 --vbr-new using the currently recommended encoder, LAME 3.97.

These are now marginally superior to the Ubernet standard for MP3 of 2004.
Solemnhour
Im not breaking the TOS cause Im not gonna share this. I bought this CD and I want it on my computer, thats all.

Anyone know how to fix that last error which I mentioned?
robert
That tool you use accepts only LAME versions 3.92, 3.90.2, or 3.90.3. Why? Because that tool you use is outdated and doesn't know any better.

Why do you want to use that tool anyway? You don't need that to get your CD on your computer.
Fandango
This Überstandard is one of those ridiculous guides that essentially teach you one fatal thing: "Don't think for yourself."
Solemnhour
Okay so what tools should I use instead, which gives me no error when checking with AQ?

I disagree. For those who are new to the digital music world (ripping) it’s a great guide line to start from. Over time they will develop their own technique for organizing their music.
Rio
IIRC, I still have used a newer AQScript from a certain ubernode page. It acknowledges the use of LAME 3.97.

The page still comes from the chris myden guy, and he acknowledges LAME 3.97 -V 2 (why not?)
robert
Why would you want to check with AQ?

AQ may have had some use when you got some MP3 from unknown origin.

You encode your CD on your computer to your MP3. Don't you trust yourself?
Solemnhour
Okay so I dont need AQ. EAC is outed? What program should I use then?

Also one more question, is there a program I can use to change stuff from lets say 19000hz to 16000hz. I have adobe but thats like reencoding the mp3 and someone told me thats a big no no...
Fandango
Why do you think EAC is "outed"?

The lowpass is done by the encoder automatically on a frame basis, it's not necessary to do that yourself.

Too bad there are very few guides that give accurate information, including the one mentioned here. How can you honestly claim that it is "great" when parts of it are wrong? dry.gif

I've lost track of how many times a duff guide has caused someone to come here with problems when using Lame to create ID3 tags instead of relying on EAC.

What's worse is that it's probably one of those guides where the author didn't think for himself, but instead copied something someone else wrote. The Jiggafellz guide is a prefect example of this.
Solemnhour
I ment to say "outdated" sorry.

And Robert said "Why do you want to use that tool anyway? You don't need that to get your CD on your computer." so I guessed it was EAC he was talking about.
greynol
No, he was talking about AQ, not EAC.
