I have a Kenwood DPX701 installed, and I love it. I was hoping to use the USB connection to handle a 30GB Hard Drive, so I don't need to buy a CD changer that plays MP3s.

I have tried many things. I narrowed it down to this:

It needs to be FAT32 or FAT16, and not draw more than 500mA from the head unit.

I bought a Seagate 2.5" drive, 60GB (formatted to 29.5 for FAT 32), and it will play files for about 3 seconds and then stop/freeze. mad.gif

I called Kenwood support, and they said that the partition is the reason the unit stops. huh.gif

I cannot figure out how any form of storage, be it a solid state memory stick, or a hard drive, can function without a partition.

I am getting close to going nuts on this.... not to mention getting bummed.... sad.gif

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thank You Very Much!

Do smaller things work, like USB thumbdrives and whatnot?

Are the MP3s located in the root of the drive, or a subdirectory?

Try a HD that uses an external power supply, and doesn't try to take any from the kenwood?

I don't really know, just some questions / suggestions...
