Full Version: EAC Genre tags and tracknumbers w/ LAME

I've been reading a lot about the Genre tag generated by LAME needing to be on the LAME list (I WANT to tag with LAME and not EAC, it *seems* to work better across different media players that I use, namely, iTunes (for ipod stuff), Foobar (for computer listening), XBMC, Roku and TwonkyMedia (for appliances that connect to my stereos and network and read shares). I think it may have to do with the different versions of the MP3 tag that LAME writes as opposed to the ones that EAC writes. I could be wrong, though, I don't really remember why I stick with this, I just know there was a good reason at the time (like 2 years ago) when I was ripping tons of CDs and wanted the tags to read consistently on all of my different players.

So, has anyone figured out a way to use the LAME tagging and allow you to enter custom genres? Is there a consensus on the best way to do this? Like I said, saw a lot about it, but hardly any concrete conclusions. And if I am going about this wrong, is there any difference between using LAME and EAC tagging? I would love to not have to rip and then open an album and modify the tags (well, besides adding artwork...). I've also been trying to figure out how to add my tracknumbers in this format (01/12, 02/12, etc.) during the rip.

Thanks!

I don't think there is any issues with using EAC's ID3 tagging with the newest EAC versions. You can choose to use v2.3 (which is default) or v2.4 tags.

However, there are no issues with using lame v3.98b5 for tagging either, AFAIK. You can use any genre name you want with --tg, and you don't have to use --ignore-tag-errors. 3.98b5 also has tagging options for setting other text tags, and cover art pictures.
