Full Version: MPC on Mac OS X?

Hi all,

as an avid MPC user I have always encoded all my CD's using mppenc so I have quite a few GB's now. I always used xmms on FreeBSD with the, now somewhat outdated, xmms-musepack plugin that I maintain for the FreeBSD ports collection.

I recently switched to Mac OS X on my workstation and I am looking for a way to play my MPC files. I have installed Apple's X11 beta and compiled XMMS using fink, but it is very unstable and dumps core when I blow some air against it smile.gif I also tried running XMMS under a fink-compiled XFree86 with similar instability. I now pipe Piecha-mppdec's output through a wav player, but this situation is clearly suboptimal.

Apple users on here, how do you play MPC files on the Mac?

If there is no satisfactory way, I'll try to get xmms-musepack working under XMMS, but this requires (1) that I get XMMS to work properly first wink.gif and probably (2) that I get more experience with OS X. gcc on OS X does not support -shared, I got the input plugin to compile using -bundle and XMMS loads it and displays properties, but I won't claim that I actually know what I'm doing... and I can't test the output because XMMS crashes before we get to that point smile.gif

Anyway, it's all fun, but any input is appreciated!

thanks!

Hi,

FYI : robux4, main matroska dev, has an i-Book and loves MPC wink.gif ... you should bug him with that, but please let him finish a very specific library first .. lol

You maintain the XMMS musepack plugin for FreeBSD? Any chance that you would update it to 0.98 (the version Frank Klemm has just released on his mpc page)? It compiles fine here.

Good idea, I will get to it shortly. I found myself unsubscribed from Frank's list some time ago, and didn't bother to check if there was any news as it was going very slowly...

Good to hear that development is still going on. smile.gif
